Usually you can find countless recommendations for this or that group of products. For example, you might want to get your hands on a new smartphone and have no idea which one best suits your needs. To do this, you can search for related articles and find topics like “Top Smartphones”, “Best Smartphones List”, etc. Of course you will find what you are looking for on these lists. However, the vast majority of similar items do not demonstrate the shortcomings of these devices. So we decided to come in with another introduction, namely the list of smartphones you shouldn’t buy.
On the list of smartphones you shouldn’t buy, we’ve selected only those that have been released recently. Also, we will not provide you with a long list of models. Instead, we’ll just focus on a few phones that were buzzwords when they were launched. After all, not only will we inform you of their serious defects, but we will also recommend a replacement.
Moto G72
The biggest highlight of the Moto G72 is its screen. This smartphone has a 6.55-inch pOLED display. The resolution of the screen is 1080 x 2460 pixels while the pick brightness reaches 1300 nits. This makes the handset ideal for outdoor use. Even in direct sunlight, it shows everything in detail. Also, the screen of our protagonist on the list of smartphones you should not buy has a touch sampling rate of 576 Hz and a screen refresh rate of 120 Hz. The rest of the screen parameters include HDR10+, 10-bit color, Corning Gorilla Glass 3, etc.
Another selling point of this device is the 108 MP triple camera. The main sensor is accompanied by two others – an 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens and a 2-megapixel macro sensor. The camera records videos with 1080p@30/60fps. Unfortunately, this camera is viewed more as a marketing gimmick than a true 100-megapixel sensor. Day shots are satisfactory. But it is better to hide this camera phone when night comes.
Finally, the Moto G72 packs a 5000mAh battery that supports 33W fast charging.
Well, why we only mentioned a few selling points is that the Moto G72 has no others. Look, this handset only supports 4G connectivity; it comes with a Helio G99 chip; the back is made of plastic that is shiny and collects fingerprints; It only supports one year of system updates.
Currently, this handset is priced at 18,999 Indian rupees ($229).
Buy instead: POCO M5
So we suggest you check out the Poco M5, which has almost identical features but costs less. In addition, POCO has scrupulously listed the features: 50-megapixel main sensor, LCD screen, etc. At the same time, this Helio G99-powered smartphone costs only 12,499 Indian rupees ($151).
Infinity Zero 8
The Infinix Zero 8 made the list of smartphones not to buy because of its 48MP selfie camera. Thus, at first glance, this handset is ideal for selfies. Of course, the large sensor on the front allows the phone to take excellent selfies. But it’s still a big mystery if this is the best buying option.
The phone looks quite attractive due to a 6.85 inch screen on the front. The latter supports an FHD+ resolution, a refresh rate of 90 Hz and a touch sampling rate of 180 Hz. Inside, the phone houses the low-end MediaTek Helio G90T chipset. Although the Taiwanese manufacturer’s G-line chips are focused on gaming, this is not a gaming smartphone.
There’s also a 64MP quad rear camera. It is placed in a diamond-shaped module. The smartphone can record both 4K videos and slow-motion videos at 960 fps.
As mentioned above, the Infinix Zero 8’s biggest selling point is its dual front cameras. It consists of a 48MP sensor as well as an 8MP ultra-wide-angle lens. The 48MP sensor can record 4K videos.
Finally, the handset packs a 4500mAh battery that supports 33W fast charging. The phone costs Rp. 3,799,000 ($260).
Gizchina News of the week
The phone is pretty affordable. But if you want a true selfie-centric smartphone with lots of goodies, there’s a better option.
Buy instead: Xiaomi CIVI 2
Aside from being considered the best looking Xiaomi phones, the Civi line phones are also the best selfie handset. That’s why we recommend the CIVI 2 instead of the phone above.
First, let’s talk about its benefits. This handset features a flexible 6.55-inch 3D AMOLED screen. It also features a high 120Hz refresh rate, P3 color space, 10-bit color depth and Dolby Vision. Also, it supports 1920Hz high frequency PWM adjustment. The latter makes nighttime use more comfortable.
The Xiaomi CIVI 2 has the most powerful selfie camera in Xiaomi history. It comes with two 32 megapixel sensors. Both are primary cameras that can even achieve SLR-level portrait blur.
The wide-angle lens has a 1.6um pixel size and a large aperture of f/2.0. The latter increases the light input by 50%. What we liked better was the ALD coating and lens tinting technology. If you don’t know, you can find this technology in the main cameras of flagship phones.
Other features include a 50MP main camera, the new Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 chip and a large 4500mAh battery (the same one we found on the Mi 12S) with 67W fast charge support. And for all this you have to pay ($334). It does not differ from the price of Infinix, but has significantly better specs.
Google Pixel 7
The Google Pixel 7 series was announced a few days ago. We suspect many of you think it’s something out of the ordinary. But the vanilla version isn’t as good as you might think. For example, it is equipped with the Tensor G2 chip, which is Google’s latest processor. But various analyzes claim that the improvement over its predecessor is only 10%.
To prove our words, let’s take a quick look at some specifications of this chip. Instead of the newer ARMv9 architecture, it uses the ARMv8 and still uses legacy cores. Therefore, the increase in performance does not exceed 10%. The only really big change relates to the graphics. It matches that of the flagship chip Dimensity 9000.
We already talked about this in an article unchanged Specifications of the Google Pixel 7. For example, the phone appeared on our list of smartphones you shouldn’t buy because it still sports the same 50MP main sensor and 12MP ultrawide lens. The Pro version has the third lens, but that’s not the case with the vanilla model. The selfie shooter has a resolution of 10.8 MP. It supports a fixed focus and a 93-degree field of view.
Finally, the Google Pixel 7 has a 6.3-inch screen with a 90Hz refresh rate in FHD + resolution and a 4355mAh battery that supports 21W wired + 20W wireless charging.
The lowest version costs $599.
Buy instead: any mid-ranger
Google Pixel 7 has so many flaws that we don’t know which model can become the best alternative. To be honest, many mid-range smartphones cost less but offer much better performance. For example, we can recommend the Redmi K50 Ultra.
