News update from Monday
Bryan and I will be covering Raw and breaking news with Wrestling Observer Radio tonight. You can also send questions about the show to [email protected]
Raw is in Edmonton tonight. A sell-out crowd of about 12,500 is expected for the show, the first time Raw has been in town since 2011. I think that crow shows that Raw should be back in this town. The line-up consists of Bianca Belair vs. Iyo Sky in a non-title match, Rey Mysterio vs. Seth Rollins, Johnny Gargano & Kevin Owens vs. Chad Gable & Otis, Matt Riddle & Damian Priest and Sami Zayn vs. AJ Styles. Solo Sikoa will be in Zayn’s corner.
Coming from the largest audience to watch Smackdown 2022 on Friday, due to White Rabbit’s curiosity and people thinking Bray Wyatt is coming, they’re teasing something again for tonight. It’s going to be interesting because the New York Giants vs. Dallas Cowboys football game is expected to be a big one again, so Raw hasn’t gotten a break from the NFL so far this season.
We’re looking for reports from Edmonton with dark matches and main event matches, as well as the house shows in Stockton Saturday night and Fresno last night at [email protected]
The highlight of Friday’s Smackdown show, and also the highlight for this year’s Smackdown, was the match between Braun Strowman and Otis with a crowd of 2,767,000 and a .70 in 18-49. (thanks to Wrestlenomics)
The national news about Brett Favre and the Mississippi welfare fraud case also affects the DiBiase family. This story tells Ted DiBiase Jr.’s version of things. Neither Favre nor Ted DiBiase Sr. have been charged with any crimes, although prosecutors are trying to seize DiBiase Jr.’s home. (Thanks to Mike Kuzmuk)
More on the story (thanks to Ed Gursky)
The Royal Rumble presale will take place on Wednesday for the 1/28 show at the Alamodome in San Antonio. It will be interesting to see how hot day one gets as WWE attendance has surged over the past few months. You can put 60,000 in the building. At the moment the ticket set is between 37,000 and 42,000, but they can add more if needed.
The Pro Wrestling Hall of Fame in Wichita Falls, TX that was closed we were told was a wreck. Somebody preserved everything they could and Tim Hornbaker, a historian and book author, saved everything he could and he and Steve Jonson and worked on it and part of Fred Hornby’s story remains. Some of historian J. Michael Kenyon’s belongings were also left behind, including his ashes and his instructions for their disposal, which were not followed. (thanks to Crimson Mask)
We send our deepest condolences to Teddy Long who announced today that his wife recently passed away.
Drew McIntyre was able to work out at his home gym last night. He is expected to be in San Antonio this week to do Royal Rumble Press and Sale. As noted yesterday, he had bad food poisoning and was missing the weekend shows.
Space in Mexico will host the TripleMania show from 10/15. broadcast live. It will be broadcast live in the US on FITE.
