Kim doubled down on her advice to "women in business," saying people don't know the truth about her upbringing

Back in March, Kim Kardashian sparked backlash when she gave her controversial advice to “women in business” during an interview with Variety.

The billionaire’s comments have rubbed people the wrong way as she completely failed in her privilege while making an incredibly bold claim about other women.

In the video interview, Kim said sternly, “I have the best advice for women in business. Get your ass up and work. It seems nobody wants to work these days.”

“You have to surround yourself with people who want to work,” Kim continued while her family nodded in agreement.

It wasn’t long before Kim’s comments went viral on social media, with many people slamming her for the “out of touch” and “offensive” generalization.

Frankly, Kim Kardashian’s “get your ass up and work” advice to women is way out of touch, much like she is. If every woman had multiple nannies, personal cooks, maids, drivers, etc., yes, then we could all accomplish far more and probably make far more money.

And while Kim certainly worked hard to become the famous business mogul we know today, many people pointed out that she was born into immense privilege that gave her a pretty good head start when it came to success.

Kim and her siblings Kourtney, Khloé and Rob Kardashian are the children of Robert Kardashian, a high-flying lawyer who was part of OJ Simpson’s “Dream Team” in the ’90s.

They grew up in Beverly Hills, and while they may be even more affluent and successful now than they were then, they were certainly nowhere near working class before they found fame.

At the time, one critic aptly summed up the backlash over Kim’s comments with the tweet: “It’s probably true that the Kardashians are hard working and Kim seems to be having the most buzz of them all. But ignoring pre-career privilege — a famous, overflowing father and a massive LA network that included Paris Hilton at the height of her fame — is deaf at best, offensive at worst.”

And Kim finally addressed the discourse during an appearance Good morning America — where she insisted the quote had been taken out of context.

In fact, Kim claimed that her “tone and attitude” soured as a direct result of the question asked immediately preceding this question, which centered on the accusation that she and her family are just “famous for it, famous for it.” to be”.

Kim said this upset and affected how she answered the “women in business” question. She explained, “That statement I said was without questions and conversation, and it really became a soundbite with no context.”

“In that Soundbite, I got off the idea in the question right before that, which was, ‘After 20 years in the business, you’re famous for being famous,'” Kim continued. “And my whole tone and attitude changed with the previous question, which turned into this question about ‘What advice would you give women?’ received.”

But Variety’s chief correspondent Elizabeth Wagmeister almost immediately disputed Kim’s version of events, saying that she reviewed the “raw footage” and can confirm that the question “famous because she’s famous” was actually asked afterward.

It’s not what she claims. I just watched the raw footage. The question was very direct: “What advice would you give to women in business?” The question about being famous for being famous actually came after this question. https://t.co/ZZx1l0k1k2

Kim didn’t respond to that clarification at the time, but did in this week’s episode The KardashiansHer fans can follow her raw reaction to the “women in business” backlash in real-time.

The star admitted she was “shamed” and “blinded” by the overwhelming response to what she had said, but also doubled down on her beliefs as she insisted people know the real story about her family’s privilege not knowing.

In a confessional, Kim says she “hates” that what she said was “misunderstood” as she apologizes for the offense caused, and in a private conversation with her sister Khloé, Kim adds, “I just feel like there is so much going on on… It never ends, will it end?”

Khloé tries to reassure her, saying, “We were made for this,” but Kim looks dejected as she replies, “I don’t know if I still am.”

Khloé then downplays the public reaction to her sister, saying, “You are. Mind over matter, you got that. It’s all noise, none of it real.”

And that theme is repeated again when Kim and Khloé meet their younger sister, Kendall Jenner, for lunch — where Kim insists she stands by what she told Variety.

“Do I believe in it? Yes. I think you have to work hard,” she tells her siblings. “But I was just so blind to how angry people got.”

“Enough people have been triggered, so I want to be accountable and understand why people feel the way they do, and I understand that,” Kim continues. “Many people were not given the same opportunities as we were.”

“Of course we had amazing chances,” replies Khloé. “But you worked too.”

Speaking in a confessional, Khloé insists Kim’s message was correct, but sparked a negative reaction because her sister was “the wrong messenger.”

“No matter what her answer would have been, people would still crucify her,” Khloé claims. “They will always say, ‘Well, what do you know, you were born with a silver spoon in your mouth,’ but it’s frustrating when the world doesn’t want to see you for who you are, and they always want to make you everything, what you say amounts to a personal attack.”

Back at lunch, Kim suggests people didn’t understand the nuances of her upbringing, saying, “Yes, we grew up privileged, but people don’t know the story of how your dad and mom had to sell their house in Hidden Hills because they couldn’t afford it and had to move into an apartment.”

“Mom really started her career and was making money at 50, so growing up and seeing how busy she was and how she got up every day with all these kids, six of her, that she had to take care of … I saw how she looked.” work your ass off and find out,” Kim continues.

She adds that watching her mother Kris Jenner proactively obtain her agent and manager’s license and “figuring out” how to represent her then-wife Caitlyn Jenner “really inspired” her to work hard.

Kendall agrees, saying of the public reaction, “It’s totally out of control, all the false narratives that people believe, and it’s exhausting.”

And Kim echoes that in a confessional, where she says, “I think people would assume I got everything when I was on a TV show but on a reality show — let alone a reality show girl with.” a sex tape – it doesn’t open doors, so I always felt like I had to work extra hard and harder to be taken seriously and to make people forget my past.”

Meanwhile, Kim admits in the episode that she was also “tired” from her ex Kanye West’s Instagram attacks on her, which were constant at the time of filming.

Combining Kanye’s antics with the Variety counterattack, Khloé says, “It’s all gaslighting. All of that is the narrative everyone wants to believe,” agrees Kim and Kendall.
