411MANIA | Road Dogg responds to criticism that Bret Hart is not a great wrestler

Road Dogg has faced quite a bit of criticism after recently saying he doesn’t think Bret Hart is a great wrestler and he recently shared a video of himself reacting to the backlash. Road Dogg said on a recent episode of his podcast Oh…You Didn’t Know that I don’t think Bret Hart is a great wrestler. I think I was a better sports entertainer than Bret. That’s where the money is.” The comment made the rounds on social media and Road Dogg was called out for it, so he posted a video on YouTube addressing the criticism and his comments. Below are some highlights:

About people saying he only trolls people: “You know, I didn’t want to stir it up. And this is the truth. People say, ‘He’s just trolling, he’s just trolling.’ No, Glenn Gilbertti, disco inferno trolls. For example, I saw his Twitter account, he trolls. These are my legitimate feelings, which I thought I would state as honestly as possible. but it’s fitting that this comes out on election day because this mess with the midterms is driving everyone nuts. And I feel like it spilled over into Wrestling Twitter as well.”

As for his statement that he didn’t think Hart was a great wrestler: “That’s fair to say [that he said that]. I feel this way today even though everyone on twitter was really mad at me. I still feel the same way, but it – like I said, it’s just my opinion. For example, it’s not intended to take anyone’s business away… I didn’t mean to take anyone’s livelihood, hurt their feelings, or offend anyone. But look, that’s that, that’s that – hyperbole is the word of the hour. And everything is for the best or the worst and today I’m the worst and so I’m sorry. I’m sorry for sharing an opinion on a platform that was given to me to share my opinion.”

As for his statement that he is a better sports entertainer than Hart: “I just think if you asked me as an entertainer to go out and entertain a crowd, I would have other options for doing that than grappling and wrestling. Thats what I meant. And I stand by that now. And if you don’t agree with that, then cool, we can talk. I don’t think it’s worth arguing about because nobody wins or loses, but it’s just my opinion. And I’m sorry that my opinion caused me to trend on Twitter, but all I can say is thank you for listening, because you certainly have the entire – what was it, hour and 45 minutes of every word I said – listening to make sure you understood my message clearly. Surely you listened to it before commenting on Twitter. Oh you didn’t and should I stop calling you Shirley? I have it.”

On his difference in wrestling philosophy with Hart: “I think I said that too, and I’m not sure, but Steve Kaufman was like, ‘You and he just look at wrestling differently.’ And it was like, ‘Holy mackerel, it’s so simple and yet it was so deep to me, profound to me. Because I was like, ‘Man, that’s it.’ Bret and I have completely opposite philosophies when it comes to wrestling. I love the Gaga, I love the sports entertainment. I don’t like the ground game that much. And I don’t think I’m in the minority when I say that. See, I also said that Bret was the most overexcited guy, the first overexcited guy I’ve ever seen. And holy mackerel, it blew my mind that a wrestler could be over like that.

In response to his comments: “I’ve said a lot of things on this podcast that I feel like people are taking the time to say — and look, I’m not giving you clickbait, I’m not clicking, I’m not giving shit. If you’re interested in taking the time to comment on social media about how stupid I am, that’s cool. I’m pretty stupid, I want to be honest with you. I did a lot of dope and got hit in the head with chairs a lot. I don’t have very good common sense. However, I’ve been doing this for a minute and I think it’s okay to share my opinion. But if not, please let me know. But you took the time to comment on Twitter. Listen to it. Enter the ones he mentioned a second ago, go back to the archives and find out and listen to the Montreal Screwjob episode. You will disagree with many things I say. But you will surely understand and realize that I say it with respect and from an honest point of view. If not, you’re the bad guy in this situation, not me. I was just sharing my opinion. If you’re not okay with that, I have two words for you, suck it.”
