Huawei Mate 50 Pro, one of the most anticipated phones of 2022, is finally here. Huawei usually releases a new version of this flagship device every year. But the story was different last year. The other brother of the Mate series, the P50 Pro, was announced, but unfortunately the Mate 50 series didn’t go as planned.

Despite harassment and accusations from the United States government. I still find it quite interesting how Huawei still survives. In fact, they are gradually gaining ground and keeping pace with their innovations.

Yesterday, September 6th, was the set date for the release of their latest flagship phone, the Huawei Mate 50 Pro, and they certainly did. As usual, the phone came loaded with features and flagship specs.

The Huawei Mate 50 Pro is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 (4G), 4,700 mAh battery and 66 W Huawei Super Fast charger. 50W wireless charging and 5W reverse wireless charging.

It has dual 13-megapixel front cameras that support video recording up to 4k 60fps. On the other hand, you’ll find a triple camera setup with a 50MP main sensor, 64MP telephoto, and 13MP ultrawide sensor. Of course, there’s a lot to talk about in this department, but I’ll only talk about the most innovative features. I’m trying to focus on the main topic of this article here.

During the launch event, Huawei addressed a number of new features and innovations in the Mate 50 Pro. Out of all the features, there are 5 worth talking about. Now let’s get started.

• XMage Camera Technology: After Huawei split from its camera partner Leica, they announced their own camera technology called XMage. According to Huawei, this new technology combines light, device, electricity and computers to produce stunning photographs. As you may already know, Huawei has been at the forefront of many innovative camera features for a number of years. So everyone knows their capabilities when it comes to phone camera capabilities. A few snaps we’ve posted taken with the Mate 50 Pro’s camera clearly show that Huawei has done something really cool with its camera.
• Variable aperture: In normal conventional cameras there is a so-called variable aperture. This causes it to adjust itself so that a certain amount of light hits the camera lens. It expands more to take in more light when light conditions are close. In good light conditions, it automatically contracts. This opening and closing adjustment helps create the best possible image.

• 200x zoom: You just can’t talk about cell phone zooming and leave out Huawei. In 2019, Huawei set a new standard for phone cameras that everyone else is set to follow. I’m talking about the 5x optical zoom of the Huawei P30 Pro. There were other manufacturers who were doing well with cameras when it came to zooming. But Huawei was exceptional in this category. Fast forward to 2022, the Mate 50 Pro is here with even more. It has an independent 64 megapixel camera with an impressive 200x zoom capability. Knowing what Huawei is capable of, it won’t be that surprising if the Mate 50 Pro beats its rivals in terms of zooming.

But unfortunately you check your battery and realize that you only have about 2% left. You can imagine how frustrating that can be. This is where this new function comes in. Huawei says turning on emergency mode can give you about 3 hours of battery life even if you’re down to 1% battery.

There you have it, the Huawei Mate 50 Pro seems to cut in every direction. From charging speed, battery life, camera, display, you name it. This new beast left nothing behind. Again, it’s pretty amazing how Huawei was able to put together a phone with this level of performance despite the United States’ sanctions against them.

Prices, colors and availability of the Huawei Mate 50 Pro

The Huawei Mate 50 series is expected to go on sale by September 28 for $980 for the Pro model. The RS Porsche Design Edition is the most expensive, priced at $1,868 (12GB RAM and 512GB storage). The basic Mate 50 is also $780. You have four different colors to choose from. They black, silver, purple and orange. The phone comes standard with the HarmonyOS 3.0 operating system developed by Huawei. Huawei could have a massive drop in the international market. But they’re not showing any signs of slowing down right now. Therefore, the Mate 50 series is expected to go on sale in the global market.
