News update from Wednesday
WWE
- As today marks the 25th anniversary of the Montreal Screwjob, Bret Hart spoke to Sports Illustrated about what would have happened in his match against Shawn Michaels if the double cross hadn’t happened:
- We still had 25 minutes. The game was already good and we hadn’t even made our move yet.
- Even when we didn’t get along, Shawn and I always had great chemistry in the ring. When we worked together we wanted to be flawless and we didn’t get along and that added to the intensity.
- When I threw Shawn over the top rope and we brawled and fought outside the ring, I knew it was going to be a very special match. It was very competitive.
- This match has only just begun. The whole brawl was only done to set up the actual match. It would really kick off after I flipped his sniper. We imagined the crowd getting up and going crazy. That would be the moment to kick off.
- WWE Shop has released new merchandise to celebrate the anniversary of Montreal Screwjob.
- On his podcast Oh You Didn’t Know, Road Dogg said he thinks he’s a better sports entertainer than Bret Hart:
- For me personally, and that’s all you’ll ever get from me, because that’s all I have. It’s my only point of reference. I never saw what the big deal was about starring Bret Hart. I never got it. He was a great worker and I thought of saying fine but he was a great worker. He worked 10 times better than me. Worked circles around me. Don’t ever think I told anyone I’m a good wrestler because I haven’t and if you’ve listened to my podcast you’ll know that’s true. I don’t think I was a good wrestler. I don’t think Bret was a great wrestler. I think I was a better sports entertainer than Bret and I think that’s where the money is.
- So I always thought he should have gone into business and done the right thing. You know what I mean? But I never looked at him like if we lost this guy we would lose the war. I didn’t think that for a moment. Now I can understand that people who are big Bret Hart fans go fuck off Road Dog. You suck. Ok fuck me and I suck. OK, how now? We’re still getting to my feelings, that is, I never thought he was that great, so it wasn’t that big of a loss as we lost him for me personally. It’s really professional, not personal, because I didn’t have any personal feelings about it either way. I just didn’t think we went under because he left. I thought we had a lot more to offer. I didn’t think we went under. I figured now we can catch our breath and move on.
- Rico flair tweeted about his upcoming Peacock documentary: “I don’t know how, at the age of 73 @peacock picked me for a documentary. This time everything I have to say is real, unedited and unfiltered. There’s so much more to come. 1 hour & 30 minutes educating the world about WTF. I tell my story. The REAL story!ā

AEW/Other Wrestling
- In a tweet before today’s Dynamite, Tony Khan promised it will be so “an exciting, newsworthy show.”
- During an appearance on Sports Guys Talking Wrestling, Dustin Rhodes said he has less than a year left on his AEW contract:
- I’m feeling good at the moment. Yeah, I’m getting older, so yeah, that [my future] kind of bothers me a bit.
- Well I’ve had a lot of cleanses. I’ve never had an ACL surgery, so many cleanses, but that’s 14 surgeries in total. I was feeling a little bit old because my knee was taking a little longer to recover from that but it is now when it went over the hill it was great. Now I have it, it’s good to go. But I’m getting older and they’re getting younger and faster and I know my time is short so I’m just trying you know? I have a year left on my contract or a little under a year and I’ll just try to do my best and entertain as much as I can because I still love it, you know? and [Iām] still pretty passionate about it, but it’s a game for young men, how everyone finds out, how The Undertaker found out, how Bret Hart found out, how Stone Cold found out. All the big ones that come out at the end and you know Jeff Jarrett just came on board and he called himself The Last Outlaw and I have a bit of a fight with him about it because I think I’m myself – because I still do work and still work at high capacity. ‘The Last Outlaw’, like the last of my kind, back then, and that’s like a badge of honor for me, and he called himself that, and I got kind of mad, and I like Jeff.
- Today is Chris Jericho’s 52nd birthday.

Just keep getting better as a person, always do good and just make something positive out of this terrible situation. My family and I, we will do this.ā
