A save and a steal mark the penultimate battles with one of the most captivating voices of all time in a singing show and the farewell of a fan favorite.
It was a rough night for Camila Cabello on The Voice, and it had nothing to do with her artists or any of the other Coach contestants.
She learned the hard way how difficult comedy is because that audience wasn’t on her side for most of the night. Her attempts at jokes were met with silence most of the time, and at one point she was actually booed quite heavily. Did Blake Shelton pay her for this?

Luckily, she fared better with her team as they put on one of the “most electrifying” performances of the night. The night saw one save and one steal as Tuesday night’s show battles drew to a close.
Perhaps the most amazing thing for us is the fact that the coaches agreed with us on all but one of their decisions. This season they were really atrocious at getting it right (we agree) sending home a lot of great singers.
Instead, their failure tonight was to bring together some of the best singers on their team, which means that no matter what, we have to say goodbye to some outstanding singers. That definitely happened when one of the biggest fan favorites had to say goodbye to the blinds.
Fair warning, being safe at home I’ll probably be a bit tougher than my peers Blake Shelton, Camila cabello, Gwen Stefaniand John legend. And just for fun, I’m going to rank the performances from worst to first and then see how they stack up throughout the season.

Kevin Hawkins vs. Hillary Torchiana
(Team Blake – “Preach”, John Legend) Kevin is the artist who was blocked from Team Legend by Gwen but then chose Blake. So Blake gave him a John Legend song to sing for this battle round? This song was definitely more in Kevin’s vein, but he also consistently outperformed Hillary. What’s worse, she missed her grade more than once and Kevin was absolutely perfect. He overdid it at first, but once he settled into his groove it was truly magical. Hillary definitely stepped out of her comfort zone with this film and had some extremely effective moments, but she just wasn’t consistent enough.
Results: Kevin wins
Kique vs. Tanner Howe
(Team Gwen – “Don’t You (Forget About Me)”, Simple Minds) Interestingly, Gwen insisted that they karaoke this exactly as written, with no artistic license allowed. It’s iconic, but that removes that extra layer from the battle. Now it’s really just the voice and how they interpret the writing without any deviations. On the day of the battle, Kique made a big appearance and got the big hello “Hey!” to the point. and still finds subtle ways to make it his own, bending around a few notes and injecting just a touch of personality. Tanner has a very clean and smooth voice, but Kique added something special that made our ears perk up a little more every time he started singing.

Kate Kalvach vs Madison Hughes
(Team Blake – “Every Rose Has Its Thorn”, Poison) Kate reflected a little during rehearsals that Madison had mastered her lower register, which she overcompensated for with some higher and bigger notes, but she didn’t hit all of them. The ones she met were very powerful and compelling, but we still felt drawn to Madison every time she started singing. She’s sitting in this bag that’s all hers and you can’t stop focusing on it, even when they’re singing together. Kate has a great voice, but it doesn’t really stand out, so we’d give this one to Madison. She nailed everything she wanted and has an undeniable vocal presence. We’d love to see how much more she could grow.
Results: Kate wins
Alyssa Witrado vs. Ian Harrison
(Team Gwen – “Happier Than Ever”, Billie Eilish) Ian wasn’t as strong in that softer part of the song where Billie lingers so beautifully, but when he opened up to his full chest voice he was there. With a bit of growling and a lot of pain, he really sold the frustration of the lyrics. Alyssa was quite comfortable with her softer tone and never really strayed from it. Her voice matched it brilliantly, and she had so much personality and stage presence on the lead. We really felt like it was their fight until Ian started hitting harder. In the end it was a dead heat because his full voice was so compelling and believable. If we had to choose, we’d probably choose Alyssa because she hasn’t shown any weaknesses, and Ian did.

Devix vs Sasha Hurtado
(Team Camila – “Electric Feel” MGMT) Everything about this performance worked. Sasha has such a unique quality to her voice that there is almost a sharpness to her tone that punches through your eardrums. Devix has multiple tones in his, with a soft whisper, a beautiful falsetto headvoice, and then his full, powerful voice. All those voices are so convincing that every time he sang we felt drawn to him. But every time Sasha took over, she took command of the moment just as effectively. Her power and range are equally impressive. As interesting as his voice is, we’d give Devix the edge, but it’s a razor-thin edge since they both really killed that opportunity.
As a side note, Camila really struggled with that crowd. At one point, when she thanked Blake for choosing her song, even though it was John’s song, she was met with dead silence. Elsewhere, she joked about having to bring her own goat out again (a reference to when Blake did that during the blinds) to silence them again. This time, Blake even asked the audience to laugh at her jokes. Things took an even more surprising turn when she agreed with Blake that Sasha was a shred of confidence from a breakthrough moment, and then joked that he was right “for the first time ever,” she was actually booed. Who’s booing one of the stars on this show…on this show?

David Andrew vs. Kim Cruze
(Team Legend – “Heartbreak Anniversary”, GIVÄ’ON) David has this incredible range and voice so delicate that feels so warm and hugging. But Kim’s voice comes from a completely different place, it’s almost indescribable. It’s almost as if her voice is too wide for a human ear canal. It’s not that she’s loud, it’s just so full and inclusive that when she sings you hear everything you could possibly need at that moment. She is a real treat for the ears with a unique tone that can only be compared to some of the greatest singers of all time. David is an incredible artist, but Kim is a force of nature.
