Last month, community finally fulfilled the prophecy, getting six seasons and a movie. The official announcement for said film confirmed that Joel McHale (Jeff), Danny Pudi (Abed), Alison Brie (Annie), Gillian Jacobs (Britta), Jim Rash (Craig) and Ken Jeong (Ben) will reprise their roles. That leaves out several members of the large study group, but it’s worth noting that the show’s creator, Dan Harmon, said so diversity that even more actors could end up in the final project. Who is missing and how likely is it that they will join the final cast? Here’s a breakdown of the probabilities:
Donald Glover (Troy): Is this the end of Troy and Abed tomorrow morning? Harmon strongly suggests not to worry about that. “[Glover] is a clown,” Harmon said at one diversity Event on November 3rd. “Man, I don’t even want to think about doing it [the movie] without Donald.” The show creator tells diversity last month that he believes “Donald is coming, based on word of mouth”. He explained at the time that the deal might not be official enough to confirm Glover was part of the cast. “It would be difficult to really commit to doing this thing without Donald,” Harmon said, noting that he looked forward to sharing more news about the film, including when he can say that Glover is “officially and really is in it.” And let’s not forget that Glover himself said during a table reading in 2020 that he’d be down for one community Movie. All in all, this seems as promising as can be.
Yvette Nicole Brown (Shirley): Brown also attended the 2020 table reading and has repeatedly expressed that she would love to be there community Movie. A few days before the film’s announcement — due to her being absent from the cast — she told E! News that she knew a script was being drafted. “Every day it gets closer to being a reality,” she said. “Do I know when? Not me. Do I know if everyone’s schedule is coming up at the right time to make it happen in a time that makes everyone happy? I do not know that either. But I know everyone has a desire to get involved and that’s half the battle.”
McHale tagged both Brown and Glover on twitter in his post announcing the news, and Brown replied, “It’s happening! Happy birthday #community fans!” (To be fair, we can’t take McHale’s tweet as a casting endorsement — he accidentally tagged Gillian Anderson instead of Gillian Jacobs.)
John Oliver (Ian): That Last week tonight The presenter is said to be quite busy with his talk show these days. While Oliver hasn’t officially commented on it community movie, a Reddit user claimed earlier this year that they attended a taping of the show and asked him about it. “John also said he wasn’t sure he could make it because he was busy with it Last week tonight but he said his part was so insignificant community that it doesn’t matter that much when he’s there,” the post said. “He said he would love to do the film if he could stop by when he had a break Last week tonight.”
Jonathan Banks (Buzz), Paget Brewster (Frankie) and Keith David (Elroy): These three community The cast have been quiet on social media so far Movie goes. Now that Better call Saul is over, Banks might be more likely to be free. But beyond that, we’re just not sure of our chances.
Chevy Chase (Pierce): Chase wasn’t there community Fellowship for a while, with his character being killed off during the show’s fifth season. The actor reportedly made racial slurs on set and reportedly once said to Glover, “People think you’re funnier because you’re black.” Harmon recently raised the possibility of Chase’s casting at a Comic-Con panel, and chances are it’s there Bad: “I don’t even know if it’s legal for him to come back,” Harmon said per diversity. “That might not be in my hands. Maybe there’s something I’ll sign with an insurance company.”
