Now that we know exactly when the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro will be fully detailed and (most likely) released for pre-order, as well when they could start shipping and for how much, anything yet to be disclosed October 6th are… the specs of Google’s next big thing.
While Bits and Pieces were apparently leaked or (indirectly) confirmed by the search giant itself weeks or even months ago,
Yogesh Brar is trying bravely today to put together an (almost) complete spec sheet for the smaller and cheaper of the two upcoming stock Android phones.
Dude, where are my upgrades?
…is the question future Pixel 7 owners coming off the 6.4-inch Pixel 6 will (rightly) be asking as they ditch their ‘old’ device and start making the ‘new’ use.
The truth is, you probably won’t notice many differences when you make this switch, but thankfully Google, there are plenty of fish in the sea of smartphone users who haven’t bought the Pixel 6 or 6 Pro and may be tempted to opt for the Pixel 7 or 7 Pro this fall over Apple’s iPhone 14 and 14 Pro or Flagships of the Samsung Galaxy S22 series.
if the The Pixel 7 is actually said to cost $599 in the US, and the following specs could make it a very solid bargain for many people:
- 6.3-inch OLED screen with Full HD+ resolution and 90Hz refresh rate
- Google Tensor G2 processor
- Titan security chip
- 50 MP main rear camera + 12 MP ultra wide angle shooter
- Single 11 MP selfie shooter
- 8GB of memory
- 128/256GB storage options
- Android 13 out of the box
- 4,700 mAh battery (approx.)
- 30W fast charge support
- Wireless charging
- stereo speakers
- Bluetooth LE connectivity
Compared to the The Pixel 6, this very affordable high-end device, will essentially feature an improved front camera, a slightly larger battery (maybe) and a slightly smaller display (probably with an unchanged pixel count and refresh rate technology).
Incidentally, the selfie shooter can be borrowed from the supervisor Pixel 6 Pro, which is certainly good news. But will it be enough to make the Pixel 7 shine in today’s premium smartphone landscape? As unbelievable as it sounds, we believe the answer to this question could be yes if and only if Google manages to do a better job Control of errors than last year … and earlier this year.
It would also definitely help if the second-gen Tensor SoC proved to be significantly more powerful than its predecessor, which unfortunately doesn’t seem to be the case based on early benchmarks. Yes, raw speeds are apparently improved, but not enough to give Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and Apple’s A15 Bionic beasts some bang for their buck competition.
What about the Pixel 7 Pro?
Unfortunately, we don’t have anything new to report on Google’s next-gen jumbo flagship, but based on what we “know” about it now. Pixel 7 and a bunch of older rumors, we can probably at least make some decent, educated guesses.
Upgrading from an already generous 12GB RAM figure is obviously unlikely, as is a battery capacity of over 5,000mAh or so. On the rear, the ultra-high-end Pixel 7 Pro will likely deploy a very similar triple camera system consisting of 50MP main, 48MP telephoto, and 12MP ultra-wide sensors to the Pixel 6 Pro, and At least for the 11-megapixel selfie snapper, too, there are currently no words on major changes.
All in all, we really don’t expect the Pixel 7 Pro to look any different than the 6 Pro in terms of specs, but it does for just $899 and up with a $200 gift card included at least at one major US retailer At launch, its value for money could wipe out the competition entirely, just in time for the holiday shopping season.
