Jurassic World Dominion Extended Cut release date announced

Fans can feast on even more of Jurassic World Dominion later this month when an extended snippet of the film is released on home video. The extended edition contains 14 minutes of additional footage, including an alternate opening, and will be released on digital, 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray on August 16th.

The home video release also comes with a wealth of bonus features, including featurettes on the film’s VFX, the development of the franchise, the making of the dinosaurs, and even a look at the emotional final night of filming with the cast and crew. Additionally, the digital and Blu-ray versions of the film include the Colin Trevorrow-directed short Battle at Big Rock, set a year after the events of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.

Trevorrow previously told TheWrap why he cut the prologue from the theatrical version of Jurassic World Dominion, while hinting that an extended cut is coming.

“[It was] maybe to Malick-ian for a big summer movie. It was the beginning of the film, it’s the first five minutes of the film and something I’m very proud of,” said Trevorrow. “In our negotiations as to how long this film could be, and it’s still quite a long film, we realized it had to go. Universal supported my request to give it to everyone for free and let people watch this prologue to introduce them to the world we were creating. Hopefully, and I could almost say with certainty, one day you will be able to see it again.”

In fact, fans can see this prologue and much more cut back into the film with the Jurassic World Dominion Extended Edition, which is 160 minutes long at dino-size.
