sandman was always more than that Neil Gaiman. Before and during the creation of the comic, there were quite a number of comic creators whose work was mentioned in the new TV series and will suffice for future seasons. Aside from Neil, how do the creators whose work appears, will appear, or be referenced in this comic react? Some of them post art and share stories about working on the comic.
Karl Vess: I think we should call this national sandman day, don’t we? This isn’t actually Sandman of course, it’s a depiction of Oberon and Titania from an issue of A Midsummer Night’s Dream that I illustrated a long time ago, which actually prompted Neil to ask me to draw issue #19 of the comic series, but It definitely looks like Morpheus to me.
Bryan Talbot: How can one honestly and authentically compare a work of art that has been translated from one genre to another? What I do know is that #TheSandman TV and comics alike brought me to tears. Thank you @neilhimself and everyone who made the Sandman TV show possible.
Colleen Doran: The only flaw with the first season of #Sandmannonnetflix was that it was too short. The Corinthian was picture perfect and @MasonAPark was absolutely DELICIOUS, like watching a human candy apple and wanting to bite into it! Can’t wait for Season 2! Tom Sturridge as #Sandman brings something to the big screen that we don’t see often enough. restraint. Subtlety. And elegance on a knife edge. Others would have made it bombastic, missing the quiet grace, menace and demure fragility. Sometimes less really is… well, less. But with Sturridge as the #Sandman, he’s like a whirlpool to fall into. He attracts attention with small moments, and when his power is unleashed, he’s really awesome, not vulgar and pretentious. He is handsome. And I’m still feeling COVID fatigue so I’m going to make myself a nice healthy smoothie, crawl into bed and get some rest while I watch more #Sandman. Then I get back to work…. OK, OK, one more thing on #SANDMAN, I love the quiet, understated beauty of Sturridge’s performance, but there’s that one moment that kills me when he walks that walk out of hell like he’s walking the runway for Prada , he was all “I own this stage, beeeyatch!” Beauty! Ok, this strut moment is more like, “The devil may wear Prada, but I wear VERSACE.” sandman. Brush and ink with gold ink. I can’t remember if this is real gold ink or an imitation gold pen, but I suspect the latter. private order.
Rick Veitch: With all the fanfare surrounding the new Sandman series on Netflix, I was left wondering. Other than Neil Gaiman, am I the only author who wrote Morpheus in a DC comic? Swamp Thing #84 March 1989. Written by me, pencils Tom Mandrake, inks Alfredo Alcala, lettering John Costanza, editing Karen Berger.
Not the only one, Rick, but definitely the first…
Jamie Delano: I’m happy to welcome some new followers after my Sandman/Constantine post… but if you’re hoping for lots of comic insights, I’m afraid I’ll disappoint you. 😉 It occurs to me that a more media-savvy cynic might take advantage of the passing attention garnered by a comment on #TheSandman to suggest that once my interpretation of John Constantine was appealing, so would readers be my ‘ Leepus’ novels stemming from the same bad mind. 😉 http://lepusbooks.co.uk is currently down due to server problems, but the usual retail monsters can fulfill your wish in the meantime. And – I happen to discover – the Kindle editions are currently ridiculously underpriced at a frankly insulting <£5.00.
Andy Diggle: I hope you got more than just a thank you for the Casanova Club stuff on the show.
Jamie Delano: I radiate reflected glory. 😉
That would be the scene in Newcastle, demolished straight away light blazer #11.
Stephen Bissette: FUN STUFF: Huge thanks to Neil Gaiman for making this happen in the SANDMAN series credits. And hey, my name is spelled correctly too.
And a few others joined in too!
Andy Diggle: My favorite thing about #Sandman on Netflix is that everyone pronounces the name Constantine correctly. Finally fucking! My favorite thing about #Sandman on Netflix is that everyone pronounces the name Constantine correctly. Finally fucking!
Stephen Platt: Congratulations to Neil Gaiman and everyone involved in THE SANDMAN. This piece was created around 2011. Themes of change, metamorphosis and the endless spiral of creation.
Bill Sienkiewicz: Happy birthday to Neil Gaiman! and everyone associated with The Sandman. #smash
Heather Antos: THE SANDMAN is damn awesome. *This is* how you make a comic book adaptation.
Gail Simone: Wait, there’s a Sandman comic?
