The iOS 16.1 beta released to developers today removes the buggy adaptive transparency toggle that was added for the original AirPods Pro and the AirPods Max in the previous beta.

After last week’s update, AirPods Pro and AirPods Max owners running the AirPods firmware beta found an “Adaptive Transparency” toggle in the AirPods settings, and it was initially believed that Apple enabled the Adaptive brought the transparency function of the “AirPods Pro” 2 to older AirPods models.

Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman said yesterday that the Adaptive Transparency option was actually a bug, which Apple has now confirmed by removing the setting in the current beta. It was downright odd that Apple chose to put a key AirPods Pro 2 feature into the original AirPods Pro, so it makes sense that it was a bug and that the setting was accidentally changed on devices has been made visible that do not support this.

Adaptive Transparency is a feature exclusive to AirPods Pro 2, made possible by the new H2 chip in the device. It was designed to allow the “AirPods Pro” to muffle loud noises such as sirens, construction work or speakers at a concert without blocking out all noise.
