After the release of iOS 16, Apple confirmed that users of older generation iPhone models will miss the ability to see their “iPhone’s” battery percentage directly in the status bar.

In an updated support document, Apple says the new battery percentage indicator isn’t available on the “iPhone” XR, iPhone 11, iPhone 12 mini, and iPhone 13 mini. Apple doesn’t provide any additional information as to why these devices will miss the new feature.

Apple added the summer battery percentage indicator icon in a beta version of iOS 16. With the new toggle, located in Settings and Battery, users can always see their battery percentage right in the status bar without having to swipe down into Control Center.

Since the “iPhone” X with the notch, users have been asking Apple to make it easier to see their “iPhone’s” battery level right in the status bar. Still, Apple’s recent implementation has proven controversial.

The new icon includes the battery percentage inside the icon, not to the left of it. The white battery icon will remain solid until the battery reaches 20% or less, at which point one-fifth of the icon will turn red and the rest of the icon will turn translucent.
