Josh Bailey scored the decisive goal in his 1,000. NHL game when the New York Islanders defeated the Carolina Hurricanes 6-2 on Friday at the PNC Arena in Raleigh, North Carolina.
Bailey gave the Islanders a 3-2 lead at 16:26 of the third period when he took a pass from him Matthew Barsalpulled Frederick Anderson out of position and hit on the backhand.
“‘Barzy,’ when he gets the puck you’re just trying to find open ice,” Bailey said. “He curled up and the timing was good. I was able to put a good move on him and get him in the net.”

Bailey was selected in the first round (No. 9) of the 2008 NHL Draft and is the third to have played 1,000 games with New York, tied with Denis Potvin (1,060) and Bryan Trottier (1,123) from the Hall of Fame.
“There have been countless messages from friends and former teammates, family and everyone else,” said the 33-year-old forward. “Just overwhelming with the support and all the kind words.”
Bailey, who has 557 points (178 points, 379 assists) in his NHL career, scored his 23rd game-winning goal of his career.
“It’s fun for Josh to watch,” said the New York forward Rock Nelson said. “You can’t write it better, he wins the game. A huge part of the franchise and this team, so well deserved.”

Brent Burns and Martin Neca scored and Andersen made 26 saves for the Hurricanes (4-2-1).
“Your goalie played really well, I give him a lot of credit,” said Carolina coach Rod Brind’Amour. “But their team game, I think they played their best game of the season [five] years I am [coaching] against them. By far the best game they’ve played.”
Oliver Wahlstrom gave New York a 1-0 lead in a 2-on-1 with Barzal at 16:29 of the first period, but Necas equalized it 1-1 at 8:57 of the second period Brady Skjei as he diverted the return pass through the back door.
Matt Martin put the Islanders 2-1 up at 14:29 after the Hurricanes defender Jalen Chatfield flipped the puck in front of the net and Casey Cizikas wiped the puck to Martin towards the goal.
“We were a little sloppy with the puck a few times,” said captain Carolina Jordan Staal said. “A few mistakes and they made us pay for them.”

“He goes down with an open shot and freezes the keeper for me, which is huge,” said Nelson. “Great games from him and it’s nice to be there at the end.”
Zach Parise scored a goal with an empty net and 1:54 for the 6-2 final while outnumbered.
