Meghan Markle says she and Prince Harry want to do a rom-com: 'It doesn't always have to be so serious'

Meghan Markle spoke about her return to Hollywood and revealed in a new interview that she never thought she’d come back after leaving suits 2018 to marry Prince Harry.

“I didn’t think I would ever work in entertainment again,” Markle said diversity.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced they would step down as senior members of the royal family in January 2020. Although they eventually ended up in Montecito, California, about two hours north of Los Angeles, the couple quickly got into the entertainment business. Her company Archewell struck multimillion-dollar deals with Netflix — where they’ll create both scripted and unscripted shows — and Spotify, where Markle just launched her lively podcast archetypes. But the type of content they choose to create may surprise.

“So much of how my husband and I see things is through our love story. I think that’s what people around the world have bonded with, especially with our wedding. People love love,” Markle shared. “I am not excluded in this feeling. And our definition of love is really broad: partner love, self-love, the love of community and family. We use that as a basis for the kind of shows and documentaries that we want out there.”

Markle said she and Prince Harry “wanted to do something fun.”

“It doesn’t always have to be that serious. Like a good rom-com. Don’t we miss her? I miss her so much. I probably watched When Harry met Sally a million times. And all the Julia Roberts rom-coms. We have to see them again,” she said.

However, there’s one genre they’re unlikely to touch.

“I don’t think you’ll ever see us in a horror movie,” Markle said. That suits Alum was just as defiant when asked if she would ever return to acting.

“No. I’m done,” Markle replied. “I guess never say never, but my intention is, absolutely not.”

Prince Harry and Markle are parents to two young children – Archie Harrison, 3, and Lilibet Diana, 1. The activist said she would support them if their children eventually wanted to get into show business.

“I would say, ‘Great!’ “When you become a parent, you really want your children to find the things that bring them complete joy. They are our children, of course, and they are part of a legacy and a tradition and a family that will have different expectations,” she said. “But I want them to be able to go their own way. If it’s the entertainment industry, great. And good luck too. There are so many people that will talk about what opened the door for my kids. But it still takes talent.” and a lot of courage. We create multidimensional, interesting, friendly, creative people. These are our children.”

It’s only a matter of time before Markle is portrayed on screen — in anything other than a Lifetime film. The former actress was asked if it was “strange” to know that someone is likely to play her in the future. (Cough… like Netflix The crown.)

“To be honest, I didn’t think about it that much. It’s all weird. You have to split up. Anyone who talks about me or casts an actor to play me will be a caricature of me created for a company.” makes people a lot of money. Once you can sort that out, it’s a lot easier to say, ‘Okay, this actually has nothing to do with me.’ It really doesn’t. It’s a tough lesson to deal with,” Markle replied.

As for the advice she would give the actor, Markle said she hopes the person “finds the softness and the playfulness and the laughter.” The silliness. I just hope she finds the dimensions. Besides, she can call me!”

Markle noted how the entertainment industry “has changed quite a bit since I was affiliated with it,” but there’s one part that’s stayed the same — and it has something very much in common with the monarchy.

“Are these institutions similar if you go through the process you did with the monarchy and then become a private citizen again?” diversity asked.

“Every company has a model. I worked for NBCUniversal and the USA Network, and it was all part of a very large organization,” Markle recalls, noting that vice chair Bonnie Hammer was her “mentor.”

“For me, it was always about finding your North Star in this model. Find someone who believes in you. No matter how complex an organization is, there’s always something I find positive,” Markle continued. “It’s important to focus on that. Some industries are very different, and yet business models for many things have an end result. That bottom line has to be kept, I suppose.”
