Google's Pixel Fold rumors: will it arrive next year?
Written by adrina

Google could be the next big tech company to throw its hat into the collapsible ring. Rumors that a flexible handset might see the light of day have been circulating for a while, especially given the company’s focus on hardware in recent years. Google continued its successful Pixel 6 series with the Pixel 7 series in October, but didn’t make many changes. It could potentially set the stage for an overhaul in the years to come.

So far, the company has kept quiet about the possibility of a foldable phone. But that hasn’t stopped the rumor mill from churning and giving Pixel fans hope. Remember that Google has confirmed this Prototyping of the folding technique back in 2019. Before that it was filed a patent application for a foldable device.

Although the phone’s name is far from confirmed – it could be called the Pixel Fold or perhaps the Pixel Notepad, the latest rumors suggest it could launch as early as Spring 2023, according to a report by TomsGuide, which cites reliable sources be quoted Display analyst Ross Young.

Don’t forget that Google isn’t the only company reportedly joining the foldable phone bandwagon. It seems an open secret that Apple is preparing to do the same, although that may not show up before 2025. (Read CNET’s coverage of a potential iPhone Flip.) Samsung, meanwhile, has launched its latest generation of foldable phones, the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4at his Unpacked event in August.

Pixel Fold Design: More Oppo Find N than Galaxy Z Fold 4

Animations can be found in Android 12L, Google’s software designed specifically for large-screen devices such as smartphones tablets and foldable phones, have offered clues as to what the Pixel Fold might look like. Based on this, Google’s foldable phone will be in the form of a foldable book with two screens. The Google Foldable was initially rumored to be similar to Samsung’s taller and slimmer design Galaxy Z Fold 3, which has an approximate aspect ratio of 22.5:18. However, according to 9to5Google and other media outlets, the opened Pixel Fold more closely resembles the square shape of Oppo’s foldable phone, the Find N. When closed, it’s believed to have an aspect ratio closer to 18:9. If true, it would mean that like the Find N, the Pixel Fold could be used more naturally than a regular phone when closed. That said, Google’s foldable phone is

Pixel Fold Camera: The camera module can be downgraded from Pixel 6

There haven’t been many rumors about the Pixel Fold’s camera, but there’s room for some speculation, courtesy of 9to5Google. The site reports that the Pixel Fold will have two front-facing 8-megapixel lenses, one presumably on the cover and one for the interior, and a 12-megapixel rear camera. The main sensor is expected to be a step down from the Pixel 6 series as it is rumored to be backing up Sony’s IMX363 sensor used in the 2018 Pixel 3, as opposed to Samsung’s top-of-the-line GN1 sensor 50- Pixel 6 series megapixel main camera. If I had to guess, the logic behind this possible decision lies in the size of the GN1 sensor, which is one of the larger camera sensors on the market. This means that a foldable phone will be difficult to carry without adding to the overall weight of an already hefty foldable device. Other rumor refers to the Pixel Fold with a 50-megapixel main camera as well as two 12-megapixel cameras and one 8-megapixel camera.

Pixel Fold price: $1,400 to $1,800

It’s not certain what a phone will cost by launch day — if that happens at all. But according to a report by 9to5Google citing an unnamed source, the Pixel Fold will come in below the $1,800 (£1,320 or AU$2,500) mark. Another report spotted by BGR in March seems to confirm this notion, putting the price at $1,399, which is less than Samsung’s $1,800 Galaxy Z Fold 4. These rumors seem to make sense as they consistent with Google’s strategy of undercutting its competitors on price.

Pixel Fold Processor: Tensor

Considering that Google went to the complex and costly trouble of developing its own system-on-chip technology, it’s almost certain that the Pixel Fold will run on the tensor Chipset that debuted on the Pixel 6 series.
