Samsung Galaxy S23: The biggest features I want to see

Samsung Galaxy S23: The biggest features I want to see
Written by adrina

That Galaxy S22 is a modest but appreciated upgrade over the Galaxy S21, which brings refinements like a brighter screen, a better camera with improved night mode, and a more attractive design. Such advances are to be expected from the world’s largest smartphone maker. According to Counterpoint Research, Samsung captured 21% of the global market in the second quarter of 2022 inflation As demand for new electronics weakens, even giants like Samsung may have to work harder to boost new smartphone purchases.

And there’s plenty of room for Samsung phones to evolve, especially with the increasing competition Google’s Pixel family. Samsung usually launches new Galaxy S devices in the first few months of the year, which means we can probably expect the Galaxy S23 to arrive in January or February.

I hope that the new Galaxy family will get longer-lasting batteries and more photo capabilities that take advantage of the excellent cameras in the S range. I’d also like to see Samsung end its practice of charging a premium to take advantage of the Galaxy S22’s fast charging speeds, since the power adapter is sold separately. The Galaxy S22 lineup already offers plenty of value for Android fans, but these improvements could help Samsung take the Galaxy S23 to the next level.

Here’s everything Samsung wants to add and update for the Galaxy S23 family.

Longer battery life for the regular Galaxy S23

Battery life can never be long enough, but the standard Galaxy S device especially needs a boost. The 6.1 inch Galaxy S22 In general, Samsung’s claim for all-day battery life was met, but just barely at times. After you use it for a month straight, I noticed that the battery level dropped to around 30% or 40% by 9:00 p.m., even with the always-on display turned off and the screen refresh rate set to default. That’s enough to get you through a workday, but you’ll probably want to pack a charger if you have after-work plans or a long commute home.

The Galaxy S22 has the smallest battery (3,700mAh capacity) of the three phones in the Galaxy S22 range, and it shows. For example, I was pleasantly surprised when the 6.6-inch Galaxy S22 plus, which has a larger 4,500mAh capacity, lasted about a day and a half when I checked it in February. I also had the refresh rate set to high, which usually drains the battery faster. That Galaxy S22 Ultra, with a 6.8-inch screen and a 5,000 mAh battery had a similar battery life.

It makes sense that the smallest phone in the Galaxy S22 range also has the smallest battery. But I hope Samsung finds a way to improve the battery life of the 6.1-inch Galaxy phone next year, whether that’s through better power efficiency or a larger physical battery. After all, Apple has made upgrades to the iPhone 13 mini That gave it an extra two to three hours of battery life compared to the iPhone 12 Mini. Battery life is the main complaint I had about the Galaxy S22, and if I were to address that, the Galaxy S23 would be an even more compelling choice for Android fans who prefer smaller phones.

Korean news outlet The Elec points out that this could indeed be the case, as it reports that Samsung intends to increase the battery capacity of the Galaxy S23 by around 5%.

Smarter camera features

The Galaxy S22’s 50-megapixel camera and the Galaxy S22 Ultra’s 108-megapixel camera take stunningly colorful and detailed photos. I just wish more could be done with these cameras when it comes to editing and software features.

The Galaxy S22 range has shooting options such as panorama, night mode, portrait mode, slow motion, super slow motion and director’s view, which allows you to record videos with two different lenses at the same time. Then there’s Single Take, which creates multiple stylized shots with a single press of the shutter button. You can also download the Expert Raw app for finer control over photo settings.

But not much has changed between the two Galaxy S21 and Galaxy S22 when it comes to camera features and shooting modes. I’d love to see Samsung take over a side from Google that regularly adds nifty camera tricks that feel more practical than gimmicky. For example, Google has a new feature on the Pixel7 and 7 pers Called Photo Unblur, it sharpens low-quality photos, even those taken with an older camera. Photo Unblur builds on Face Unblur, an earlier camera feature from the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro, which I also appreciate. As the name suggests, Face Unblur freezes moving subjects that might otherwise look blurry.

Features like these show that Google isn’t just thinking about camera quality, but also ways to eliminate everyday mobile photography annoyances. On the other hand, many of Samsung’s updates aim to give content creators more tools to capture different types of footage and video clips.

While the Galaxy S23 is likely to be launched in two to three months, Samsung is already making improvements to the cameras on its current Galaxy phones. It just added a new feature to the Expert Raw app that allows stargazers to take better photos of constellations, similar to Google’s astrophotography feature for Pixel phones. There’s also a new Camera Assistant app that lets you enable or disable certain features, such as B. a faster shutter or an automatic lens change.

Faster loading that doesn’t cost as much

Samsung S22 Ultra

The Galaxy S22 Plus (left) and Ultra (right) both support 45-watt fast charging. You have to buy an adapter separately.

The Galaxy S22 range supports fast charging up to 25W for the Galaxy S22 and 45W for the Galaxy S22 Plus and Ultra. However, you will need to purchase a separate charger to do this. Samsung charges $50 for this 45 watt charger and $35 for that 25 watt charger, although you can often find them at retailers like Amazon and Walmart for less. In some scenarios, when I turned on the Galaxy S22 Plus, I also didn’t notice much of a difference between the more expensive 45-watt charger and Samsung’s cheaper 25-watt charger, which you can read more about here.

With the Galaxy S23, I would like to see a clearer improvement in charging speed and cheaper charging options. That OnePlus 10 Profor example, offers either 65 or 80 watt fast charging depending on the region, both of which are faster than what Samsung offers on paper. OnePlus also puts a compatible power adapter in the box.

Samsung and Apple have stopped including power adapters in their product packaging to reduce waste, which is an admirable thing. But I at least wish Samsung would give you the option to include a fast charge compatible adapter as an option when ordering a new phone at a discounted price, much like you can choose a storage option or add Samsung Care Plus.

If the rumors turn out to be correct, the base model of the Galaxy S23 could have the same 25-watt charging speed as the Galaxy S22. This is acc ice universea Twitter account with a history of releasing details about unreleased Samsung products.

Samsung does a lot of things right with the Galaxy S22, especially in terms of software support and display quality. But as smartphone upgrades have become incremental rather than revolutionary with each passing year, focusing on core elements like the camera and battery is as important as ever.
