Fred Savage was fired from his position as executive producer/director The Wonderful Years Restarted in May, and three months later, on August 9, six female accusers came forward with allegations against him in a profile The Hollywood Reporter. The women, who were all crew members on the show, accused Fred of alleged misconduct when they worked together. Specifically, the women named alleged verbal harassment and alleged physical harm to a former crew member.
In response to the allegations, Fred released a statement on the matter THR. “Since the age of six I have worked with thousands of people on hundreds of sets and have always strived to contribute to an inclusive, safe and supportive work environment,” he said. “It is devastating to learn that there are colleagues who think that I have failed in these goals. While some incidents are reported that absolutely did not and could not have happened, any person who feels hurt or offended by my actions is one person too many. I will work to address and change my behavior that has negatively impacted someone, as in this work nothing is more important to me than being a supportive colleague, friend, husband, father and human being.”
After Fred gets fired The Wonderful Years Reboot, where he served as executive producer and director, 20th Television, part of Disney Television Studios, released the following statement HollywoodLife: “Recently we were made aware of allegations of inappropriate behavior by Fred Savage and, as is the policy, an investigation has been launched. Upon its completion, the decision was made to end his tenure as executive producer and director of The wonderful years.”
Unfortunately, this incident wasn’t the first time Fred has been accused of misconduct on set. He was accused of assaulting and molesting a female crew member on the set of his ex-TV show. The grinder, according to TMZ. In 2015, Fred allegedly created “a hostile work environment” for the crew member who worked in the dressing room, which reportedly included him verbally attracting her in front of people. As if this alleged public humiliation wasn’t enough, this woman claims Fred hit her.
“It was brought to my attention that a woman who works in the costume department of a show I was on almost three years ago claimed that I treated her harshly on set just because she’s a woman,” Fred said in response to the above allegations. “These allegations are completely unfounded and absolutely false. Fox conducted an extensive internal investigation into their claims, a process in which I was fully involved. After completing a thorough investigation, Fox found that there was absolutely no evidence to support these allegations. None of their claims could be substantiated because they did not materialize.”
His statement continued, “I have worked in the entertainment industry my entire life and have always strived to treat everyone on every set I work with with respect and professionalism. While none of the allegations leveled against me are true, I wholeheartedly support anyone who feels they have been mistreated to come forward and speak to Human Resources and those in charge. We’ve seen so much courage from those who have spoken out lately, but I will be just as brave in protecting myself and my family from those trying to tarnish my good name. I cannot allow these people in particular to disparage me while they damage the message of thousands of women and others who have suffered and continue to suffer.”
