NICKELBACK‘s long-awaited tenth studio album and first release in five years, “Get rolling”will arrive on November 18th via BMG.

NICKELBACK has released two singles so far “Get rolling”: “San Quentin” and “These days”. The official music video for “San Quentin” was filmed on August 30 at Simon Fraser University’s Convocation Mall in British Columbia. According to CTV News, hundreds of NICKELBACK Fans attended the filming, including a fan who traveled all the way from Edmonton.

“San Quentin” was inspired by frontman Chad Kroeger met a real guard from the notorious California Maximum Security Penitentiary. The song follows the story as he plots his clever escape.

Why it took so long to produce the 2017 successor “Feed the Machine”, Chad told the WRAT Radio station: “Well, we should have made a record a lot sooner, with all that time off [due to the coronavirus pandemic]. But it’s weird to say this, but for 25 years it’s felt like someone’s behind us with a drover and is saying, ‘Hey, the record has to be done by this time. We will be touring around this time. We do Australia and then Europe and then we come back. We will cross Canada. We will meet America.’ Just like any other band that has to do something like this, you want a chance to see your fans around the world. But with that we were like, ‘We’ll get to it when we get to it.’ [Laughs] And yes, we made time for what was just a wonderful luxury to be able to sit back and relax [go], ‘No. I’m going to play that guitar solo 40 more times for another three days and make sure it’s exactly how we want it as opposed to deadline, deadline, deadline.”

Speaking of whether “San Quentin” stands for the musical direction of the rest of the album, Chad said: “All our records are all over the map. We don’t have a single record that really sounds the same from top to bottom in terms of songwriting. I mean, they’re all over the map, and I love that. I don’t know how we did that and how we got our fans’ acceptance of it, but we’re very lucky because we don’t make the same kind of music We’re like, ‘Well, the fans expect that, so we just have to give them a whole album of that.’ We can do whatever we want. It’s so all over the map, and it’s fulfilling to be able as an artist and to be able as a songwriter to come together and say, ‘Let’s do something Completely left field. Let’s try something heavier than ever. Let’s try something lighter than ever.” Whatever we feel that day, we just do it.”

Chad also talked about the lyrical inspiration for “San Quentin”said: “I met them [San Quentin prison] warden at a party. And I couldn’t believe how young he was. I said, “There’s no way you’re the overseer of San Quentin,” and everyone was like, “Yup. He is.’ Guy Fieri‘s [American restaurateur, author and Emmy Award-winning television presenter] a buddy of mine and I went to his birthday party a few years ago. And the whole time we talked I thought [laughs] I’m talking to this guy, but in my head, all I could think about was, ‘I’m going to write a song called ‘San Quentin’. That’s it.’ And I put it in my notes on my phone. And then when the riff was down, I think I yelled out this line, ‘Can someone please keep me the fuck out of San Quentin?’ And we just took it from there.”

“Get rolling” and “Get Rollin’ (Deluxe)” will be available across digital platforms and in physical CD format. The Deluxe Edition includes four bonus tracks – acoustic versions of “High Time”, “Just One More”, “Does heaven even know you’re missing?” and “Horizon”. Standard and exclusive versions of the album will also be released on vinyl in 2023.
