Red Planet Inu – Is Elon Musk Working on a Cryptocurrency for Settlers on Mars?
Written by adrina

Red Planet Inu might be just around the corner. We’re just two years away from SpaceX’s planned launch to Mars. And Elon Musk looks like he has plans for a Mars coin.

dr Robert Zubrin is the founder and president of the Mars Society. He says there are three reasons why Mars should be the target of any space program.

“In short, because science is on Mars. This is where the challenges lie, and this is where the future lies. Five hundred years from now people won’t remember which faction got the upper hand in Iraq or Syria or whatever. They will remember what we did to make their civilization possible. That’s the most important thing we can do at this time. If you have the power to do something big, important and wonderful, then you should do it.”

For years scientists have been trying to figure out how to sustain life on Mars. They even worked on farming on Mars. Farming is a necessity as it will likely be a one-way street.

Farming is one of the many facets of colonizing Mars that space enthusiasts have delved into. But now there’s a new idea in town. What currency will settlers use?

Red Planet Inu and Elon Musk

Elon Musk has widely publicized his interest in founding a colony on Mars. Musk often talks about what the future Mars colony will look like. He has previously joked about the idea of future drinking caves on the Red Planet being called “Martian bars”.

In fact, Elon even joked about destroying Mars with nuclear weapons.

Musk wants to drop nuclear weapons on the poles of Mars. The theory is that it will help warm the red planet and make it hospitable to human life. The CO2 trapped in the Red Planet’s ice caps are dispersed and create a greenhouse effect.

However, such social media forays by Musk around Mars draw attention to his goal of settling on the red planet. He has often said that “we don’t know when something will happen to the earth”. And he thinks humanity would do well to colonize Mars before World War III.

To that end, SpaceX has invested billions of dollars not only to get to Mars, but to do it in a sustainable and cost-effective way. And that’s not a distant dream. SpaceX plans to do this in 2024 – only two years away.

Musk’s settlement

So where will Musk’s team be based? By the water – H2O once flowed across the now desolate terrain of Mars. Some of this water remains trapped in the ice. This ice will be a necessity for any future colony.

Currently, SpaceX scientists are trying to figure out how to fuel using only the red planet’s natural resources.

Musk’s drills are also used on Mars. Right now they are busy building tunnels under Los Angeles ready for a future underground transportation network. Such tunnels are needed on Mars to protect future human colonists from bombardment with ionizing radiation.

Early settlements must probably have been in artificial caves deep below the surface. Which is awful if you’ve had the sci-fi dream of looking out at the rust-colored surface of Mars through floor-to-ceiling windows.

Another Musk invention will come into play once the human base has their basic needs covered. The Starlink satellites are owned by SpaceX. They are currently lighting up Earth’s night sky in perfect geometric formations. They deliver broadband everywhere, even in previously unreachable places like deep in the Australian outback. And in Iran.

Starlink will provide vital communication links between colonists on the Red Planet and the people back home.

And let’s not forget Tesla. It doesn’t take too much of a leap of imagination to envision autonomous Teslas zipping across the surface of Mars and performing vital tasks.

SpaceX’s innovative Tesla battery packs were photographed stacked at the spacecraft manufacturing and testing facility in Boca Chica, South Texas. The site was chosen by SpaceX for its proximity to the equator, which is favorable for large rocket launches.

Red Planet Inu – the currency on Mars?

As more people move to Mars, a currency is needed on the planet. Of course, this will be a cryptocurrency. But which one? Elon Musk recently announced that he is interested in launching a MarsCoin in an interesting exchange with Binance’s CZ.

Except that there is already one.

Unfortunately for Elon, a MarsCoin already exists – created for use on Mars. MarsCoin’s mission originally started back in 2014 to help fund a mission to space.

Before Musk’s Mars expedition became widely known, it was thought that a private trip to Mars would cost around $10 billion to $30 billion. So, the altcoin was created to financially back the first human colony on Mars.

The MarsCoin project donated 400,000 coins to the Mars Society and 400,000 coins to the now defunct Mars One. Mars One was a project that wanted to send people to Mars and create a reality series about life there. It captured the imagination of people around the world. But it was viewed as a suicide squad by some in the scientific community, and the company subsequently went bankrupt. The MarsOne project is believed to have donated its Marscoins to the Mars Society.

Will there be a Mars crypto?

While there will likely be a crypto for Mars, it is likely that SpaceEx is behind it and the existing MarsCoin will be ignored. However, the original idea for MarsCoin was good.

The idea that Hodler could directly help fund a future Mars colony was tempting. It was also cool to be an early adopter of a coin that could serve in the financial system of Mars. Matt Damon would have loved to buy some MarsCoin to buy stuff while struggling to grow all those potatoes.

The MarsCoin project seems to have fallen into disinterest. But we’re all definitely looking forward to SpaceX developing a cryptocurrency for trading on Mars.
