Cue the music of John Carpenter! In Thursday’s Halloween issue, what’s shaping up to be a scary good time of the year Grey’s anatomythe interns were cast in a kind of “slasher flick”. – in other words, challenged to slice and dice real corpses. Did one of them, um, make the cut? And by the end of this week, has “Haunted” delivered as big a surprise as it did last week? (Don’t you remember what happened? Our synopsis will fill you in.) Read on and find out.
“I ALREADY HATE THIS” | At the beginning of the episode, Richard pulled up a cart full of pumpkins for the interns to practice their carving skills on. Funnily enough, this was Mika’s worst fear – she had pumpkin phobia. She was even afraid of pumpkin bread. Luckily, soon enough Nick was scoring real bodies for her instead for Ginsu. At Link’s Cancer Versary, he invited Jo over for dinner and a foot massage. Unfortunately she had to work. So instead he would find a date with a sexy nurse on Tinder. The first patients of the night were a couple of teenagers who had taken acid and jumped off a rooftop into a pool. Spring, to A pool anyway – only one of the flying idiots landed in the water. The boy, still high after a spatter, snuck out of the ER and jumped out of an ambulance right onto poor Jo while she was tending to a patient in labour. So much for Link’s sexy nurse. When the children’s fathers showed up, they dealt with a yelling that the boy had drugged the others. They were so loud Bailey had to step in — parenting is hard enough, she told them. They couldn’t turn on each other.
In Owen’s trauma training session with the cadavers, Winston upped the ante by offering the intern who demonstrated the most impressive technique a chance to scrub with him. As the residents fumbled, Winston confided to Owen that Maggie had taken to commenting on just about everything he did – from his cases to the way he heated water. To cheer up Winston, Owen suggested terrorizing the interns a bit. After the “patient died,” Jules, whose parents donated their bodies to science, was horrified to learn that Owen had stabbed all the bodies for the purposes of training the freshmen. But how else would they learn? During the second round, Winston remarked that watching the interns was like “watching kids stick their fingers in outlets.” (Interesting revelation: Blue didn’t have a father. OK.) This time, the residents saved the “patient.” Who won the chance to scrub in? Well, they all contributed, Lucas noted. Could they all scrub in? Secure. Before leaving, Owen encouraged Winston not to let resentment take over his marriage. His solution? Considering quitting cardio to save their relationship.
“I AM MUCH MORE TERRIBLE WITHOUT THE LEAF” | At Meredith’s, Amelia encouraged her sister-in-law and Nick to have a romantic evening. She would babysit the kids while Zola was on a sleepover. Instead of bringing his girlfriend over to his house, Nick got them a fancy hotel room. In which they apparently drank champagne and talked about Zola most of the time. Regarding the child’s situation, Nick shared a story about how his mother bought an RV to show him the whole wide world where nobody knew he was the child whose father had left him. So… road trip for Mer and Zola? However, just then the poor child cried out in tears and Mer and Nick went to pick her up. She had been trying to sleep and all she could think about was her mother and her aunt and Alzheimer’s. It would get better, Mama promised. Even if they had to find her a school outside of Seattle. Ah, is the How will Ellen Pompeo be going after a few more episodes?
“WHO DOES ALL THE WORK STACY? ME!’ | After applying to be an attending, Levi broke down under the pressure of the job and barked at a nurse in front of Richard. Of course, Webber pulled him aside. “Can you just tell me what I need to hear?” asked an impatient Schmitt. “Take a break,” Richard replied. However, Levi couldn’t — if he “took a break” and someone else died, he wouldn’t be able to come back from it. Later, Richard went to the bar to ask Helm to get back to work. No dice. That same night, she would quit her bartending job for $800. In the last few minutes of the episode, Richard Levi said he let him and his class down. Webber wanted to ask everyone present to make up the remaining backlog if they lost the last class of interns.
“TONIGHT WAS ENOUGH TO MAKE ME SCARE TO GROW MY KIDS” | During the surgery with Maggie, Simone’s phone beeped and beeped. (Uh-oh, I thought. Grandma?) Still, the kid who missed the pool persevered. After the incident in the OR, Maggie asked Simone what was going on – Pierce knew Griffith was the intern being watched. So what happened? Simone had been a model resident of the gig, which she was forced to leave after finally voicing concerns about racial issues. That’s why her phone rang: a video of her losing her fish — and understandably so after the abuse she’d suffered — had gone viral, and she’d tried to take it down. Simone later shared with her colleagues that she was the resident of the video. Finally, as the class drew to a close, Teddy and Link regretted how one stupid impulse could ruin your life at any stage of the game. “I’m kinda crazy about Jo,” he blurted out. It hadn’t been an option… then it was… and now? “I screwed it up,” he said. “Just keep sleeping with other women until those feelings go away,” she advised. Don’t let what happened to her and Owen happen to him and Jo. After this convo, Teddy found Owen asleep in the lounge and reminded him of how he’d managed to get her multiple vacations at once while they were on the job. It was a sweet moment… when he fell asleep again.
