While Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is the next MCU film set to stream on Disney+, it likely won’t make it to the platform as some fans were hoping.
Black Panther 2 has become the MCU’s latest hit blockbuster, marking the franchise’s 30th feature film while also being the seventh and final film in Marvel Studios’ Phase 4. And now that Disney has brought every new MCU content to its exclusive streaming service since the start of Phase 4, fans are eagerly awaiting the day when the sequel will see almost every other MCU movie and streaming show of the past 14 years will accompany years.
Marvel’s films have all had varying times between their theatrical and streaming debuts, with Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness marks the shortest time between the above two dates at 47 days. Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings came in and left with the longest period of 70 days between the two releases Black Panther 2 in a strange place as the new year approaches.
Now, a report has suggested that the latest MCU film may be further from coming to Disney+ than many had anticipated.
Black Panther 2 isn’t coming to Disney+ this year
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever won’t start streaming on Disney+ until sometime in 2023, according to Deadline. Some had predicted that optimistically Wakanda forever could start streaming during the holiday season (before or after Christmas Day 2022), given the timing after its theatrical debut and considering how many families would be eager to watch it at home while celebrating together.
The outlet noted that the MCU sequel will remain in theaters “at least 45 days” a period of time that would end the day after Christmas:
“As we previously mentioned, a robust theatrical window is imminent, a mere 45 days minimum, with no plans for the Ryan Coogler-directed and written film to land on Disney+ later this year (ala strange world). While the exhibition has received news that Disney’s animated Thanksgiving will be released strange world Released on Disney+ in time for the year-end holidays, a robust theatrical window is imminent Wakanda foreverdefinitely 45+ days I understand with no plans for a holiday drop in the studio’s OTT service.”
When is Black Panther 2 coming to Disney+?
With how popular Black Panther 2 Has hit theaters in the first few days, it’s sure to be a film that fans will look forward to seeing anytime on Disney+. But with this update, the time between the two premiere dates appears to be at least closer to the average time it took the other films to make the switch to Disney+.
This decision seems largely due to Disney wanting to capture as much potential box office revenue as possible Black Panther 2 before fans can stream it or just $8/month. Before the end of the year is the only major box office competition the film should have Avatar: The Way of Waterwhich will be released in cinemas more than a month later Black Panther 2 first debuted.
But now the question is: when exactly Black Panther 2 will hit the streaming service?
At the very high end, a 70-day window that Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings As previously used, the film would debut on Disney+ on January 20, 2023. Disney and Marvel may want to rake in as many box offices as possible, especially with the quality of the film Black Panther Sequel is financially out of the gate.
Jan 1st would mark a 51 day turnaround which would be the same as on the lower end Doctor Strange 2 was. The safest bet would be somewhere between those two dates, like Avatar: The Way of Water‘s release will undoubtedly make a difference Wakanda forever’s theater receipts anyway.
And while fans have been waiting longer than expected for its streaming debut, now is the perfect time to enjoy this massive new adventure on the big screen as the world absorbs the latest Marvel extravaganza.
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is now in cinemas worldwide.
