Marvel Studios has just completed its third and final Disney+ multi-part series of the year at Tatiana Maslany’s She-Hulk: Lawyer. The legal comedy gave the MCU its second Hulk-centric solo project in its long history. But thanks to some exciting new rumours, Marvel fans may finally get a new entry that has long been on many wish lists – World War Hulk.

Warning – the rest of this article contains spoilers for the season 1 finale She-Hulk: Lawyer.

Aside from being the biggest meta content the MCU has released or is set to release by dead pool 3, some important teasing was laid out when the Hulk finally returned from his long absence. Even the start of his absence in Episode 2 laid the groundwork for where Marvel Studios could include the Hulk in one World War Hulk-focused film in the near future.

So how exactly does it work She Hulk configuration World War Hulk? Who were all the characters involved in this show that could find themselves in this new movie? When could it take place? When could the film hit theaters?

Well, The Direct is here to answer those questions now in the first season of She Hulk has compiled everything fans need to know.

The World War Hulk teases in the She Hulk finale

Episode 9 of Marvel Studios She-Hulk: Lawyer revealed some exciting teasing for a potential World War Hulk Film set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The first teaser came during Jennifer Walter’s fourth-wall-breaking battle with Marvel Studios’ AI leader known as KEVIN, a nod to real-life studio president Kevin Feige.

While debating how to improve her own season finale, she decides to leave out Bruce Banner “falling from literal space” to save the story before KEVIN intervenes. He remarks how someone else would have been introduced during Bruce’s explanation of what he was doing, before Jen tells him “Save it for the movie.”

KEVIN: “But I want Bruce to come back and explain what he did…”

Jen: “No, no, no. We don’t need to hear about that.”

KEVIN: “But we wanted to introduce…”

Jen: “Ehh, save it for the movie.”

Later, their conversation ends with KEVIN telling Jen “See you on the big screen” even if he withdraws it immediately:

Kevin: “Okay. Now back to the show. See you on the big screen.

Jens: “Really?”

Kevin: “No.”

Jen: “Oh, whatever, KEVIN!”

Those two quotes suggest that there are plans for more Hulk stories in a later MCU film, which currently would be more of a WWII Hulk story.

In addition to these teasing, the biggest allusion to World War Hulk came in the final moments of the episode when the Hulk made his true return during the party at Jen’s parents’ house.

In a shocking comeback for Jen, her parents and Matt Murdock to witness, Bruce teased Sakaar for more information about his story. But at the moment he also revealed that he has a son named Skaar, played by Wil Deusner, confirming The Direct’s exclusive report that he would appear at some point during the series.

Skaar is known as a key player in the World War Hulk Storyline who was born on Sakaar during the time of the Hulk and spent most of his time there. But now that Skaar comes to Earth with the Hulk, the stage is set to explore her time on Sakaar.

However, with both the MCU’s narrative and timeline expanding wildly, another question arises as to when a World War Hulk history could have taken place.

When is World War Hulk happening?

Let’s see where World War Hulk could take place in the sacred MCU timeline, there are a couple of likely locations where it could take place.

Possibly the easier option would be to bring World War Hulk in as a prequel (technically an in-between quel), much like the path Black widow took place in the following days Captain America: Civil War while he is released five years later. This would allow the Hulk’s time on Sakaar before Thor: Ragnarok to explore and at the same time show the origin story of Skaar.

However, things could pick up right after the Season 1 finale She Hulk are said to be wanting to keep things in the present. This approach could actually tackle both storylines and return to the Hulk’s original run on Sakaar in flashbacks while being sent back to Earth for another adventure upon his return.

Bruce and Skaar may have a chat with Jen about what’s going on and learn that there is a new mission for them to tackle before or during one of the next two Avengers trips to Sakaar. This story could also tie in with the early threads She Hulk who were teased when the Sakaaran ship fired on Bruce and Jen and explained why Bruce had to go to Sakaar in the first place.

And since these story paths are both realistic options, the next mystery is who will actually show up to contribute to the story.

Who Appears in the World War Hulk Movie?

Hulk, She-Hulk, Abomination
Marvel Studios

The obvious answer to that is the trio of Hulk heroes Bruce Banner, Jennifer Walters and the newly introduced Skaar from episode 9 of She-Hulk: Lawyer. This story would bring together a triple dose of Hulks for an exciting storyline on and off Sakaar, show the world in more detail, and finally give fans their second Hulk-focused story to the big screen in the MCU.

But there are also a number of other important characters from the Hulk myth that could also play an important role in the story, even though they would all be based on Earth.

Incredible Hulk leader
Marvel Studios

During Marvel Studios’ presentation at the D23 Fan Expo, the studio confirmed that Tim Blake Nelson’s leader will be making a comeback as the main villain of 2024 Captain America: New World Order, which will be his first appearance since 2008’s The Incredible Hulk. He would certainly be someone interested in both the Hulk and She-Hulk and dependent on the World War Hulk Given the film’s release date and his own post-Captain America 4 status, he could be a great new candidate for this film’s villain.

Red Hulk
Wonder

thunderbolts Thunderbolt Ross is also rumored to be returning with a recast of Harrison Ford in the role, setting the stage for him to finally transform into the Red Hulk for the first time. With a career-long grudge against the jolly green giant, he’s undoubtedly someone fans would love to see when the central Hulk trio are defeated in a fight.

Abomination, Shang-Chi, Wong
Marvel Studios

And of course, most immediately there is the mystery of what will happen with Tim Roth’s subscription.

She-Hulk’s finale had Emil Blonsky revert to his human form and send him back to prison, though Wong broke him out again with magic. Whether he’s returning to Macau for more cage fights or traveling to something more nefarious, he’s an immensely powerful player who shouldn’t be kept off the board in any other Hulk movie.

And with all of those questions potentially answered, there’s one final mystery fans are hoping to solve regarding a World War Hulk Arrival.

When will the World War Hulk be in cinemas?

Hulk, Mark Ruffalo, Marvel Studios
Marvel Studios

This answer is a bit more complicated, mostly due to the Hulk’s solo rights still being owned by Universal, but that may not be the case for much longer. If rumors are to be believed, Marvel Studios will regain those rights in June 2023, setting the stage for that to happen World War Hulk to eventually join the MCU.

The Leader and Red Hulk could both be in the game by the end of 2024, making next year a great time to set up World War Hulk for an introduction to the MCU. Combine that with the potential for another season or two She Hulkand it would make for plenty of build-up at that point.

The only films with release dates in 2025 or later are the newly postponed ones Fantastic Four in February 2025, Avengers: The Kang Dynasty three months later and Avengers: Secret Wars Arriving May 2026. This would leave a few potential spots later in 2025 or one early in 2026 World War Hulk to use when Marvel wants the likely lead heroes to be involved in the biggest MCU events in Secret Wars.

Regardless of when that happens, it seems perfectly clear that Marvel has an opportunity to bring this intense story to life, especially as Mark Ruffalo continues to tease that he’s far from done playing the Hulk. The only mystery now is when it will all come to fruition.
