π¨ Warning: Massive love is blind Spoiler. π¨
I don’t know about you, but I (wrongly) assumed that Love is blind: after the altar would be a Q&A style reunion special. I was wrong: it’s actually three episodes following the cast, mostly over the weekend of Natalie’s birthday in March.
There are two pretty big elephants in the room: Both season 2 couples (Nick and Danielle and Jarrette and Iyanna) have since announced their divorce After the altar was filmed. However, in the episodes, they are all still very much together.
So I watched for the good of humanity After the altar β and this is what I learned:
1.
Let’s start with Shayne and Natalie. Shayne describes their relationship after the show as “re-engaged, not engaged, on and off.” According to Shayne, the last thing he heard from Natalie was a text message saying she “never wants to speak to her [him] never again.” Also, and I can’t stress this enough, Shayne is wearing a headband now.
2.
Shaina is in a relationship with a man named Christos. We know he is Greek, dramatic, older than Shaina and a Christian. One of the first “small talk” questions she asked him was, “Do you believe in Jesus Christ?” They announce that they are involved in the show.
3.
Well, Natalie’s take on things is getting hot. She claimed that there were “flirty messages” between Shayne and Shaina β Natalie was with Shayne and Shaina was with Christos β and that’s why Natalie broke up with Shayne.
4.
According to Natalie, the news included things like wildly their sex life β and what would happen if they got together.
5.
“I think she had a secret relationship with Shayne,” Natalie says bluntly as Shaina arrives at the ’80s-style party. “In my eyes, she was the other woman.”
6.
Both Shaina and Shayne deny this. “There was never anything wrong with Shayne,” Shaina claims, calling Natalie’s account “little high school drama.” Amazingly, she admits that the most inappropriate message she sent Shayne was calling him “cute baby.” Shaina plays this like it’s NBD.
7.
“I don’t really understand what’s so scandalous about me and Shaina writing DMs,” Shayne adds. “If it’s about Natalie, it would be scandalous if I blinked at Shaina.” HMMMM.
8th.
Let’s get to Jarrette and Iyanna. The problems are obvious from the start: Iyanna has already moved out.
9.
At the heart of the problem is Jarrette’s long partying. “I don’t want to live there because it bothers me to have to sit there for hours waiting for him to come home,” explains Iyanna. βWe have to have the same conversation over and over again. β¦ He is immature.β
10
Jarrette is fully aware of this, but throughout episodes struggles to figure out concretely what to do. In the end, things seem hopeful and he even says, “I’m committed to this lifelong partnership with you.” Unfortunately, we know that doesn’t work.
11.
There is far less insight into why Nick and Danielle are breaking up. Things between the two seem fairly uneventful throughout the episode, and we end with Danielle saying that she offered Nick sexual favors in exchange for him trying new food (don’t leave me with the list of start foods Nick doesn’t eat). Guess we have to go elsewhere for this closure!
12.
Sal is in a relationship with a woman named Jessi, and the show seems hell-bent on showing how “fucking awkward” it is for Mallory to be around her. Both Jessi and Sal feel the need to deal with Mallory, to which she awkwardly replies, “You guys didn’t have to say anything.”
13.
Sal also brings the idea of ββgetting engaged to Jessi into a conversation with his sisters and shows them the ring he bought. He also uses this moment to talk about an incident during filming with Mallory. “We had plans a week before our wedding…I didn’t hear from her for two hours,” he recalls, describing walking home and seeing her in a strange car. “Mallory’s in there with some guy, drunk.”
14
For some reason, in a POST-CREDITS SCENE, Mallory denies getting Sal up, saying she’s dating one of her oldest friends. Also in said post-credits scene, Shayne challenges Natalie to publicize the alleged messages between him and Shaina. I honestly wouldn’t have realized the scenes were there if I didn’t have to source photos for this post.
fifteen.
Before we get to Deepti and Kyle’s update, I want to address a few random things. First, Shake isn’t there. Shake told TMZ that the show “asked” him to appear but that he didn’t “trust” how he was being portrayed. He will not be missed.
16
Second, there is a lot of alcohol in these episodes. The gold cups are practically overflowing in a way that seems incredibly strong. I’m curious if others will notice it too.
17
Finally, Deepti and Kyle start the episodes in a ‘situation’, meaning they see each other several times a week, call each other their ‘best friend’, are attracted to each other but are afraid to take action so they don’t ruin their friendship.
18
Don’t worry, by the end of the show, they’re in a relationship. “Eventually I want him to be my husband,” Deepti adds, should we forget the marriage obsession love is blind
