Latest Android beta reveals possible future Pixel features like Clear Calling, Spatial Audio
Written by adrina

Tweets distributed by Esper’s Mishaal Rahman and developers Kuba Wojciechowski Mention that Google may be working on a previously unknown foldable device (meaning it will be alongside the Pixel Fold/ Notepad would be another foldable device). The pair also mention that Google may be working on a Pixel Tablet Pro, which will be a premium version of the tablet next year.

Android 13 QPR1 Beta shows that Google is working on a feature called “Clear Calling”.

Rahman points out that Google is reportedly working on a feature called Clear Calling that focuses on the “phone” part of a smartphone. This reduces and potentially eliminates background noise heard during a call. While it works with most cell service providers, the feature does not work with “Wi-Fi Calling”. The latter allows smartphone users to make and receive calls over a Wi-Fi network instead of using a cellular network.

For those worried about Google having access to their calls with the new Clear Calling feature, Rahman says the content of your calls won’t be sent to Google. Wojciechowski says he’s found an update for the rumored Pixel Ultra, which now includes two IMX712 image sensors, one of which is listed as ultrawide. The other IMX712 sensor appears to power a 13MP front camera.

Wojciechowski has an interesting theory about the Ultra, codenamed Lynx, L10. He believes it might not be a consumer phone, but an internal device used by Google to test camera sensors. With less than a month to go until the upcoming Made by Google event on October 6th, we should know pretty soon if there will be a super premium Pixel Ultra device.
The reason Wojciechowski might be right in his assumption is that Google hasn’t been hiding anything about the pixel ecosystem it’s working on. Heck, the company even showed off images of the Pixel 7 series back in May during the Google I/O Developers Conference. With that kind of transparency, which also prompted Google to announce a 2023 release for the Pixel Tablet, the search giant would no doubt have revealed some details about a Pixel Ultra.

Another potential feature spotted in the Android 13 QPR1 beta mentioned by Rahman is spatial audio. This allows users to get a sense of where the sounds they hear are coming from. Also known as “3D audio,” the sound is placed 360 degrees around the listener, allowing them to determine whether the sound source they are hearing is in front of them, behind them, to their left, or to their right.

Here’s how you can join the Android 13 QPR1 Beta

To participate in the Android 13 QPR1 Beta, visit the Android Beta Program website at www.google.com/android/beta. Tap the View Eligible Devices link and click the blue + opt-in box. You will receive an OTA update containing the beta within 24 hours. You can find it under Settings > System > System update.

You’d better back up your phone before installing the beta because if the update is too unstable for you, you’ll have to erase your phone to end the beta program. On the other hand, if you can wait until the stable version of the feature drop is released in December, you can then safely exit the beta program without having to wipe your data.

While the Android 13 QPR1 beta revealed a huge amount of information about Pixel devices, perhaps the most exciting news for those with the Pixel 6 Pro is the possibility that Google will release an update that will allow the front camera to generate depth maps of the faces of the users who allow the device to offer a secure version of Face Unlock. An animation was spotted in the beta showing a woman setting up Face Unlock by staring into her pixel.
