Chicago Med has confirmed that Asjha Cooper will direct the show as Dr. Vanessa Taylor left.
The actress has been part of the main cast of the medical drama for the past two seasons, though she dropped the bombshell of a major career change on last night’s (November 2) episode.
Vanessa told her birth mother Maggie (Marlyne Barrett) that she had decided to take a new job in the Philippines to signal Cooper’s exit from the show.
In response to her departure, Cooper took to her Instagram Stories to thank fans for their support during her time on the NBC series. She wrote: “Thank you for all the love for Dr. Vanessa Taylor”.

Her on-screen mom, Barrett tweeted: “She’s leaving! A new journey begins! I’ll miss this one!”
Cooper’s exit comes less than a month after this was confirmed Chicago Med would say goodbye to Brian Tee (Dr. Ethan Choi) after eight seasons.
Tee, who has appeared on the show since it began in 2015, cited that he wanted to spend more time with his family and pursue other opportunities when he left.
“Dr. Playing Ethan Choi at Chicago Med was such a gift and blessing,” he said at the time. “I am forever grateful to our fans and my colleagues both in front of and behind the camera as I embark on a new journey. I am forever indebted to Dick Wolf, NBC and Universal Television for choosing me.

“What we do for Dr. Planning Choi’s farewell is appropriate and beautiful. I think the fans will absolutely love it. It’ll bring a little bit of the new ethane and a little bit of the old. I know episode 9 will be great.”
Elsewhere, Season 8 has seen the return of Yaya DaCosta as April Sexton following her previous departure in Season 6.
Chicago Med is broadcast on NBC in the US and on Sky Witness in the UK.
