After years of waiting, fans finally have not one, but two avenger Movies to look forward to on the MCU board. The first of these Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, will be in cinemas in May 2025 Avengers: Secret Wars then in the fall of the same year. Although not much is currently known about it Secret Wars, The Kang Dynasty has made headlines with a writer and even a director Shang Chi‘s Destin Daniel Cretton.

Cretton has said in the past that the jump from Marvel solo film to super-powered ensemble was epic “no hope from him”, but his career appears to be headed in that direction as the director sets out to take the helm for the upcoming one avenger 5.

And it seems reality is finally settling in for Cretton as he shares his excitement with anyone who asks.

The Direct

Speaking to ComicBook.com at New York Comic Con, Avengers: The Kang Dynasty Director Destin Daniel Cretton spoke about his newly announced directing role as he’s ready to take on Marvel Studio’s newest team.

After being asked by ComicBook.com’s Brandon Davis if “[he was] the man for Avengers: Kang Dynasty,” Cretton jokingly responded with a laugh and said, “I think so:”

Brandon Davis: “Is it true?”

Destin Daniel Cretton: “Is what true?”

Davis: “Are you the man for Avengers: Kang Dynasty?”

Cretton: Is that true? I think so (laughs).”

This comes after many quotes from the Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings Director regarding a possible change to adopt one avenger Movie.

The filmmaker previously lamented to IGN that he was more interested in it “Explore… Characters” than anything else and had no desire to follow the Russo Brothers model seen at Marvel Studios:

“It’s definitely not my hope. I’m not really striving for one or the other. Once we land on the story we want to tell, it determines how many characters will enter that story. But most of all, I’m looking forward to exploring more of the characters and their emotional journeys, and seeing them grow and trying to achieve and failing, and seeing them pull themselves out of the mud. So that’s what I’m looking forward to the most. And I’m not sure how many characters we’re going to introduce in the next one.”

It’s funny to note that Cretton is not just tapping another Marvel movie, but one of the biggest in franchise history. The director said that before Shang Chi He had told his agent “Never let me make a Marvel movie” but since realized it was him “An idiot for [ever] says that:”

“…And that’s what I told Kevin [Feige]and Louis [D’Esposito]and Victoria [Alonso]and Jonathan [Schwartz] in the square and then explained it to them when they made the announcement for Shang-Chi, something snapped in me that made me just go to a meeting and it became… this. As I was in the elevator downstairs driving, when I left the meeting I was like, ‘You’re an idiot for saying that…'”

Make your way to join Cretton Kang Dynasty The creative team is Jeff Loveness, who will write the screenplay. Loveness seems just as playful in his quotes as Destin Daniel Cretton hilariously saying things like that avenger movie was “Shooting… This Weekend” after being announced as a writer for the project:

“Shoot it at my house this weekend. Kyle forgot to charge the camera battery. Can you bring one?”

Brings the fun to the Kang Dynasty

Everyone involved so far Avengers: The Kang Dynasty seems to have a lot of fun talking about the project, whether it’s Jeff Loveness joking that the film is ready to shoot, or Cretton acting as if he might have some insecurities about directing the film .

The entire creative team seems to be having their pranksters on full display right now, but that’s bound to change very soon. Continue working once avenger 5 really starts, then fun and games are pushed aside and rubber (hopefully) hits the streets.

But that doesn’t mean it won’t be fun to work on The Kang Dynasty. While this is an intense film centered around one of Marvel’s most devious villains in Jonathan Majors’ Kang the Conqueror, the characters involved are too funny to even be serious and serious. Just look at the project Cretton was promoting while giving these quotes: action comedy American-born Chinese.

Certainly these won’t be the last quotes from Destin Daniel Cretton Avengers: The Kang Dynasty while the project is heading towards its release on May 2nd, 2025.
