The rumored real-life storyline is far more twisted than any movie — with Drew hoping to “cure this moment” by sitting down with Selma herself.
Selma Blair shared a rather shocking story involving death threats and Drew Barrymore in her 2022 memoir — and now Drew has responded to the wild tale himself.
While appearing on The Drew Barrymore Show, Blair opened up about a claim she made in her book Mean Baby: A Memoir of Growing Up involving the ET actress and her own father, a claim Drew hoped to talk to Selma about for a “healing” moment.
“In my book, I was very close to my mother. And my dad and I went back and forth and had some friendships, we never really clicked. Because he did something so unthinkable to me, I really would never call him Dad again,” Blair said.
She explained that the craziness started after she landed an appearance on a movie, when the producers started receiving bizarre letters via FedEx claiming I was a heroin addict, which Blair says isn’t true.
“It was kind of a poison pen letter about me, claiming to be an agent. They fired me before they even fired,” Blair continued. “They were nice to me but said, ‘We don’t know what’s going on, the liability. We don’t think so, but…’”
At the time, the actress assumed the letters were being sent by someone who “didn’t like me in high school,” but then things escalated.

“I’ve heard of one detective saying, ‘We know it’s not you’ – that was about a year later – ‘but someone wrote letters to Drew Barrymore, poison pen letters signed by Selma Blair.’ ‘ she said, adding that she felt ‘heartbreak’ and ‘anxiety’ upon hearing that.
“In short, I finally found out that it was my father, someone who was involved with my father, and he passed that information on to her,” said Blair, who claimed in her book that her father’s friend was her Culprit. “When he found out it was her, he chose her and didn’t believe me. He said, ‘No, she’s not doing that, you’re ruining her life too, you give her a monkey in the drink at Starbucks.’ I’m like, ‘I’m in New York, I’ve never met her.’”
Blair said her father “admitted in the end” that he knew Selma wasn’t to blame, but added that they “never had any real make-up” about the situation. “My entire adult life after that, when I knew it was him, I had to cut him out,” she added. Her father Elliot died in 2012.

Barrymore looked shocked upon hearing the story before assuring Blair: “Good news, [the letters] really didn’t come to me” and she only found out about it later.
“Then I received your book and then I was like, ‘F— this, I’m going after her, I want to heal this moment,'” she added of her desire to put Blair on her talk show. “Because it wasn’t real to me on my side, because I would never doubt you and I’ve actually been a total fan of yours on the side.”
Selma said the worship was mutual — and that’s partly why she believed Barrymore was the subject of the wicked notes in the first place.
“You were my childhood favorite because you were the Girl. That’s why the letters went to you, I suppose, because he knew what you meant to me,” she explained. “It’s not a coincidence. You were the favorite.”
“I totally thought it was coincidence!” exclaimed Barrymore. “That makes more sense. But thanks.”
