Scott Bakula will not be part of the new one quantum leap Series; and that’s coming right out of the proverbial horse… well, not his mouth, but his Twitter Feed. Ahead of this week’s reboot premiere on NBC and Peacock, Bakula took to Twitter to finally answer fan questions about his involvement. The star also wrote that he was offered a role in the new show’s pilot but passed it on.
According to the tweet, Bakula’s character, Sam Beckett, initially had a role in the new series’ pilot. Without saying why he made the choice, Scott Bakula said that while the original series is still “close and dear to him,” he made the “difficult decision to pass on the project.” Whatever his reasons for passing, Bakula said he still wishes the series and the people who make it “good luck and happy jumping.” You can see Bakula’s entire Twitter thread below.
If the critics are right, it’s not just missing Scott Bakula and the late Dean Stockwell quantum leap reboot. Reviewers weren’t impressed with the pilot judging by the articles collected on Rotten Tomatoes, with the most common complaint being that the new series takes itself too seriously and lacks the fun of the original so far.
It’s just speculation, but it could be that the new series’ alleged failure to follow through on the fun of the original is at least part of why Scott told Bakula, “No thanks.” It’s worth noting that Bakula his Tweet accompanied by a screenshot of the first quantum leap Series of Sam Beckett inhabiting the body of a woman with a fruit cap, which is definitely part of the fun these reviewers are writing about. Maybe he just added it because he likes the photo, or maybe he’s sending a message about what’s missing from the revival.
sure, quantum leap isn’t the only popular sci-fi franchise Scott Bakula could potentially reprise. For four seasons, Bakula directed the first Star Trek prequel series. Star Trek: Enterpriseas Captain Jonathan Archer. company was canceled after four seasons and proved to be the last Trek series to air pending another prequel series.Star Trek: Discovery– Premiere 2017.
Revivals are all the rage these days, and that’s no less true of Star Trek. Star Trek: PicardThe third and final season of will stream on Paramount+ next year and there has been much talk of similar series coming for the cast of Traveller and Deep Space Nine. There wasn’t that much talk about one company return, or Scott Bakula returning for something like that Star Trek: Archerbut you never know
Meanwhile, Scott Bakula isn’t sitting on his hands. At some point in the near future he will direct the NBC pilot for unbroken– a modern western that sounds suspiciously like Kevin Costner yellowstone. He also stars in the upcoming indie sci-fi movie deity; a collaboration between Eddie Alcazar (Perfect) and Steven Soderbergh (Erin Brokovich).
