With the 6pm ET Tuesday trading close fast approaching, here’s a breakdown of the top trading candidates that are still available, as well as the biggest names that have already walked off the board.
Nathan Eovaldi, RHP, BOS: The veteran is in the final season of a four-year, $68 million contract.
Pablo Lopez, RHP, MIA: Controllable by 2024, the Marlins could be open to trading the 26-year-old at the right price.
Tyler Mahle, RHP, CIN: The 27-year-old, who hit 210 batters last season, is controllable until 2023.
Frankie Montas, RHP, OAK: The top starter who may still be available is the 29-year-old under club control until 2023.
Shohei Ohtani, RHP/DH, LAA: The two-way Superstar set to test free hands after 2023 is a long shot to be traded, but the Halos are said to be “listening to everyone”.
Martín Pérez, LHP, TEX: The 31-year-old, who became an All-Star for the first time in 2022, had one career year after signing a one-year, $4 million deal with Rangers.
Jose Quintana, LHP, PIT: The veteran southpaw had a rebound season after signing a one-year, $2 million deal with Pittsburgh.
Carlos Rodon, LHP, SF: With the option to sign off the final year of his two-year, $44 million deal this offseason, the left is a candidate to deal with if San Francisco decides to sell.
Noah Syndergaard, RHP, LAA: The 29-year-old, who signed a one-year, $21 million deal last offseason, has had a solid season after missing nearly two years while recovering from Tommy John surgery.
David Bednar, RHP, PIT: It would take a lot to bring the All-Star closer to being controllable by 2026, but Pittsburgh could treat him to take advantage of assist demand.
Andrew Chafin, LHP, DET: The 32-year-old (player option 2023) has been traded before the deadline for each of the past two years and it could happen again in 2022.
Michael Fulmer, RHP, DET: After winning the 2016 AL Rookie of the Year and making the 2017 AL All-Star team early in his career, the 29-year-old aspiring free agent has reinvented himself as a strong helper.
Jorge Lopez, RHP, BAL: Another starter-turned-helper, the 29-year-old had a breakthrough year as he closed in for a surprise Orioles team. He is under team control until 2024.
David Robertson, RHP, CHC: After pitching 18 2/3 innings in 2019-21, the 37-year-old has rejuvenated his career as a player with the Cubs after signing a one-year, $3.5 million contract last offseason.
Josh Bell, 1B, WSH: One of the top sluggers out there, the switch-hitter will be making his free-agent debut this off-season.
Willson Contreras, C, CHC: The Cubs traded a number of core veterans last summer, including Kris Bryant, Anthony Rizzo and Javier Báez. The 30-year-old catcher’s tenure with the North Siders is likely to end the same way with the threat of free agency post-season.
Nelson Cruz, DH, WSH: The 42-year-old (who has signed a one-year, $15million contract with a mutual option until 2023) is having a bad year, but a contender who needs right-handers could risk his track record.
Brandon Drury, 2B/3B, CIN: After hitting four homers in 137 plate appearances in 2020-21, the 29-year-old has found a consistent role with the Reds this season, surpassing his previous career high in homers before the All-Star break (16).
Joey Gallo, LF, NYY: After acquiring Andrew Benintendi from the Royals, the Yankees are reportedly buying Gallo, who is coming off a disappointing tenure in the Bronx and is eligible for free agency after 2022.
Ian Happ, LF, CHC: A first-time All-Star in 2022, the switch-hitter is under control through 2023, but is expected to trade before the deadline.
Ramón Laureano, CF, OAK: The 28-year-old (taxable until 2024) is one of the few true midfielders available and a candidate to be transferred by the rebuilding A’s.
Trey Mancini, 1B/RF, BAL: With the Orioles surprisingly smack in the middle of the AL wildcard race, the 30-year-old fan favorite (mutual option 2023) is no longer subject to suspension.
JD Martinez, DH, BOS: The five-time All-Star slugger is in the final season of a five-year, $109.95 million contract with the Red Sox.
Whit Merrifield, 2B/OF, KC: He is having his worst season as a Big Leaguer but as the Royals look to the future, the 33-year-old could be traded despite being under contract until 2023.
Joc Pederson, LF, SF: The 30-year-old has signed a one-year, $7 million deal and knows what it’s like to be traded before the deadline. It happened just last year and he won a World Series title with the Braves.
Bryan Reynolds, CF, PIT: It’s going to cost a lot to steal this switch hitter from the pirates. The 27-year-old is under team control until 2025.
Juan Soto, LF, WSH: The 23-year-old superstar is available after turning down a 15-year, $440 million contract extension, but the Nats’ asking price is said to be astronomical.
Michael A Taylor, CF, KC: The 31-year-old, who is better known for his glove than his bat, is in the first year of a two-year, $9 million contract.
Christian Vázquez, C, BOS: In the final season of a four-year, $20.3 million contract, the 31-year-old backstop offers an alternative for teams unwilling to meet the Cubs’ asking price for Contreras.
