The next DLC for rFactor 2 has been revealed and it’s an official BTCC Hyundai – plus fans attending the race have a chance to win autographed merchandise.
It’s time for more official British Touring Car Championship content rFactor 2 as the 2021 spec Hyundai i30 Fastback N Performance NGTC will be part of the upcoming Q3 2022 platform content drop.
This will be the third BTCC car to be released this year by Studio 397 and Motorsport Games, following the rear-wheel drive Infiniti Q50 and front-wheel drive Toyota Corolla GR in April. The latter will be used next Sunday, August 7th for the upcoming race of the season with the native competition system.
Built and run by Excelr8 Motorsport, the Hyundai was first introduced in the BTCC in 2020, but the next season saw it begin to flourish in the hands of Tom Ingram, claiming three race wins and six more podiums.
His ‘Ginsters Excelr8 with TradePriceCars.com’ livery, used by Ingram in 2021, can be seen alongside that of his then-teammate Chris Smiley. There are also a handful of generic BTCC branded designs.
It uses the TOCA engine built by Swindon Powertrain, which is identical to that used in the existing Toyota and Infiniti.
Some content creators appear to have been given early access, as evidenced by Aidan Millward’s video below.
It joins the Historic Mini, a free race car from Caterham Academy and World Wide Technology Raceway as part of the next batch of DLCs for the title. The Mini was listed with an August 8 release date, so expect the Hyundai then, too.
rFactor 2 in upcoming BTCC races
Along with news of a new car for the platform, participants in the last four rounds of the real-life BTCC season will have a chance to test drive rFactor 2 and win signed merchandise, as stated on the BTCC website.
In the BTCC rFactor 2 Hot Lap Challenge, race fans can attempt to set their best times on one of four simulator rigs on the following laps:
- Snetterton: 13th-14th Aug 2022
- Thruxton: 27th-28th Aug 2022
- Silverstone National: 24th-25th Sep 2022
- Brands Hatch GP: 8th-9th October 2022
What content will be shown is not clear, although a Motorsport Games spokesperson has confirmed to Traxion.GG that the track used will be the previously released Donington Park. Attendees will be able to provide feedback that will hopefully be used to formulate a special BTCC game currently planned for 2024.
“We know our fans are excited to get their hands on the official BTCC game and we ensure that progress and expanded development plans continue to be made in the here and now,” said Alan Gow, Chief Executive of BTCC.
“We look forward to hearing fan feedback directly and delivering another fun and engaging experience at race weekends.”
