FC Bayern Munich defeated Eintracht Frankfurt 6-1 in a gripping offensive. Here are the match prizes:
Shirt swap: Randal Kolo Muani
Today, this award only serves the namesake. Frankfurt put in a pretty solid performance but ended up losing 6-1. However, Muani made sure to give his best after coming on as a substitute. He’s quick, strong, quite acrobatic to be honest (although that overhead kick failed miserably) and has a knack for the ball. As a relatively new addition to the Frankfurt squad, he seems to be developing quite well.
The Bomber: Serge Gnabry
With one goal and one assist, Gnabry did very well on the pitch today (except for the scratched pass to Muller, who subsequently missed an open goal). If there hadn’t been missed chances and a few bad moments, Mané would have gotten it. But Gnabry was in the spotlight (until he was substituted). The attack in the first half was so fluid, it was nice. If Gnabry can build on that and use that as his starting block for the season, we could be in for a hell of a ride. On his first goal, the defenders completely forgot about him and he floated down the side unmarked. And of course, with a silky smooth run and a careful, slow finish, he scored Bayern’s fifth goal of the day. Gnabry’s beautiful floating pass to Mané for the header was simply terrific and could not have been more precise. What an achievement from him today.
Soccer God: Joshua Kimmich
After a slow start to the season, it looks like Kimmich has finally found his stride. He showed a fantastic game today and set the pace of the game throughout. He opened the game in the fifth minute with an incredibly placed free-kick (the angle was so tight) and only pushed the roaring machine that was Bayern further. Kimmich’s partnership with Sabitzer is looking better game by game and I can only hope they continue to play like that in the games to come. Overall an incredible game from Kimmich, well done boy.
The Emperor: Dayot Upamecano
The Frenchman was once again the rock in Bayern’s defence. In the opening minutes of the game it looked like Bayern’s defense was struggling (but wasn’t that important, attack was too busy trying to score FIVE goals) but Upa was constantly there to help the few but mitigate relevant threats. He played the full 90 minutes but looked lively and had some key tackles throughout the game. The attack on Muani towards the end of the game was so subtle but incredibly clever and just gave us a glimpse of how talented the man really is. Without Upa, the result might have been a little different.
Master of the game: Jamal Musiala
What. a player. We’ve said it before here on BFW, and we’ll say it again. Jamal Musiala is an absolute gem of a player and it’s amazing to see him perform like this on the big stage again. It just proves his courage and how worthy he is of a first-team spot as a regular starter. It looks like Nagelsmann has finally assessed Moose’s talent and it’s great to see him start in every game so far. As Nags rightly said, it’s like the ball is like a magnet at his feet. His ball control ability is incredible and has the vision of legends like Muller himself. Moose scored two of the six goals today and was by far the best player on the field. And to think he’s only 19 (let that simmer for a while). His first target was an easy tap-in, but his composure and coolness complemented his positioning very well. However, his second goal shows how good he really is. After submitting an (incredibly good) pass from Sané, Moose controlled the ball perfectly and completed it coolly to make it 6:1. It proves that the only way to get the ball off your feet is to foul it. To end my rave about him, here are some of his stats for today:
Jamal Musiala’s game by the numbers vs Eintracht Frankfurt:
80% shooting accuracy
66% duels won
58 touches
5 shots
4/5 dribbles completed
2 chances created
