The Montreal Canadiens’ unofficial season opener begins Monday in Laval-sur-le-Lac when the team opens with the annual golf tournament.
Martin St. Louis, Kent Hughes, Jeff Gorton and Geoff Molson are expected to be among the interviewers, as players will also be in attendance. The celebrations started with a bang when Nick Suzuki was named the team’s new captain.
Suzuki was the first person to speak after being made captain. He says he was asked to be draft captain and gave himself the rest of the summer to consider taking on the role. Suzuki said he spoke to Shea Weber about being captain.

Suzuki said it was a management decision regarding the leading group and that no player vote had been taken.
He began his speech with some of his French, but says he can read better than he can speak.
