Apple released its major WatchOS 9 update for the Apple Watch on Monday. WatchOS 9 will be available as a free software update. Apple first unveiled WatchOS 9 at its annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June. Cupertino releases new software updates for its devices every year to make them more powerful. This year’s update isn’t a leap forward, but it’s still a significant one in terms of features.

There are many changes; Here are some of the features that will transform how you use your Apple Watch.

When will WatchOS 9 be released and how do I get it?

Apple said the new operating system will be available by September 12, days before the launch of the new Apple Watch Series 8 and Apple Watch SE (2) on September 16, while the Apple Watch Ultra arrives on September 23.

what will you need

    • An Apple Watch 4 or newer
    • An iPhone 8 or newer

How do I download WatchOS 9?

You must download iOS 16 on your phone before you can update your Apple Watch. You can download iOS 16 by going to Settings > General > Software Update > Download & Install. Once this is complete, the software will restart your phone. Then you can go to Watch app > General > Software update. Allow both your Apple Watch and iPhone to charge close together overnight. Make sure both are also connected to Wi-Fi.

The “Medication” function is useful for the elderly.

What new features will come to WatchOS 9?

Most notable is a new workout app. So when you start exercising, you’ll see more information, including activity ring info, heart rate zones, and more. Everything you need to spin the Digital Crown. Heart rate zones are automatically calculated based on your health data. You can also create them manually. As for customization, you can create work and rest intervals for yourself.

The Sleep app gets a big upgrade in WatchOS 9. Apple is adding something called Sleep Stages. With sleep stages you can see how well you slept based on REM, light and heavy sleep stages.

New and revamped watch faces are also part of WatchOS 9. The Astronomy watch face gets a new look as it takes advantage of the Apple Watch’s larger display to show cloud coverage around the world. Then there’s Metropolitan, a customizable dial with complications and numbers that turn on and off as you turn the digital crown. Lunar, on the other hand, shows the lunar calendar when you turn the crown. Finally, Playtime is a collaboration with artist Joi Fulton.

Apple also added a new medication feature to WatchOS 9 via a medication app. Basically, you can use the medication app to manage medicines, vitamins and dietary supplements. Users can add medications they are taking to the app and receive notifications when they take a dose. Don’t worry if you don’t have an Apple Watch, you still have the option to add your medication to the Health app on your iPhone.

With WatchOS 9, the Apple Watch can also monitor how long a person has been in Afib (atrial fibrillation). The new feature tracks your heart’s progress and provides a graph that you can share with your doctor.

Finally, Apple is adding a new power saving mode to the Apple Watch. This feature works similarly to iPhone and iPad. Essentially, it extends the Apple Watch’s battery life by disabling features like always-on mode on the Apple Watch 5, for example, when the device’s battery is low. Apple says the feature will give you up to 36 hours of battery life on a full charge for the Apple Watch Series 8 and up to five days for the Apple Watch Ultra. The good thing is that Apple is rolling out Battery Saver Mode for older Apple Watch models, including the Apple Watch Series 4.
