Fresh off their first away win of the season, the Montreal Canadiens travel to Missouri to take on a team that hasn’t fared well of late, the struggling St. Louis Blues.

Thursday saw another game marked by late heroics for the Canadiens, a 3-2 nail biter against the Buffalo Sabers. Forward Josh Anderson started the game for the second time this season. He’d also won the season-opener game against Toronto by just 17 seconds on the clock. Not bad for a man who only had one winner all of last season.
Back-up goalkeeper Samuel Montembeault was also on his head throughout the game, making some brilliant saves from his 43 on the night and making it big when challenged en route to his second win of the 2022/23 season.
A final bright spot came the game just under seven minutes into the third period when rookie defenseman Kaiden Guhle carried teammate David Savard’s one-off pass to the top shelf for his first goal of the National Hockey League. The kid really is the real deal and a huge bright spot for the young core in the Montreal backend. However, Guhle left the game briefly and is listed as daily, so hopefully the issue is something he can recover from quickly.
Juraj Slavkofsky, the first overall winner, missed his third straight game with an undisclosed upper-body injury but traveled with the team and may return to the lineup against St. Louis.
The Blues started the season red hot, winning three in a row and looking like a fresh team ready to turn heads. However, they have lost their last three games and only scored three goals in their current slide.
Back-up goaltender Thomas Greiss, who was newly signed this offseason, set a St. Louis record on his debut by making 39 saves, the most in his first game with the club in franchise history. He was put between the pipes in their last game on Thursday against Nashville, but it was a different kind of game for Greiss and his teammates. Despite an early 2-1 lead, they seemed to hit the brakes and the Predators offense came alive, scoring five straight goals en route to a 6-2 win.
Nashville’s fifth goal of the competition, scored by Nashville captain Roman Josi, was the first power-play marker the Blues allowed this season. Will the Canadians be able to break out of their pathetic 1v26 spell in man advantage? One could only hope so, as they’re second to bottom in the entire league, ahead of the Columbus Blue Jackets, who haven’t even scored a single point over man advantage.
It’s likely that 2008 St. Louis draft pick Jake Allen will get the nod for Martin St-Louis’ team, and Jordan Binnington will return to tend the net for Craig Berube’s team.
With a team riding the pinnacle of their last-game win, their first away win of the season, St. Louis is looking to break out of its slide and put together a W next Saturday night.
