In the latest 83 Weeks Podcast (Q&A Edition), Eric Bischoff discussed the backstage issues at AEW, specifically the media frenzy that led to the behind-the-scenes fight after the AEW All out.
“The worst part of what happened in this media circus was the level that Phil Brooks, whatever his name is, Phil went to humiliate Tony Khan. He gutted him. First he cut off his balls, made him look like a complete tool. and when that wasn’t enough and he had more time to just ramble on, I think he humiliated Tony Khan.”
“Now I’ve said a few things about Tony. Other people have said some things about Tony that aren’t flattering, but just to sit next to a guy you pay millions of dollars and let him ruin your company and make you look like a fucking tool, which he did . It’s not the fight. I don’t give a fuck about the fight. The only thing that would have interested me about the fight was who has the best shot. I think the way Phil humiliated Tony was unforgivable.”
Nothing like this has ever happened to me. Well, people would say shit that leaked to the media because that’s what a lot of people did back then. They would leak things to the media to try to implement their agenda or get across a point they couldn’t otherwise make. It didn’t happen and bother me, but no one has ever sat next to me in a media scrum and just completely wrecked my company and made me look like a complete asshole. That never happened.”
Whether AEW should side with The Young Bucks and Kenny Omega or CM Punk:
“Let’s just go through an exercise here. Let’s say that The Young Bucks leaked internal information about what was going on behind the scenes of AEW, they leaked that information to Dave Meltzer, which I think is why punk lost its shit. To the right? I can’t blame Punk for being mad about it. This is chicken shit, juvenile high school bullshit, if that actually happened I wouldn’t blame him for being hot. What I blame him for is the way he handled it and humiliated Tony Khan to vent his anger. That’s my problem with punk.”

“Even if that actually happened and The Young Bucks actually leaked information to Dave Meltzer and Dave Meltzer released that information to fuel punk, I firmly believe that could have happened. It still doesn’t give Punk the right to do what he did, take millions of dollars from AEW every year and completely ruin the company in the process. For that reason I would get rid of Punk regardless of what happened that caused this reaction. Punk’s reaction was, in my opinion, far more egregious than the alleged circumstances that caused it. So punk would definitely have to go. I would never let a guy who buried me and my company while taking millions of dollars from me, I would never let him on TV with a live mic or in an interview with a live mic ever again. I wouldn’t want him around.”
“I just can’t think of a scenario where you would keep this guy with you. I can’t think of any, and if they do I guess it’s just a guess that they were involved in a legal dispute that they’re keeping them around until they can determine they mean AEW that they’re out of legal Bulletproof, otherwise you’ve got this angry piece of shit called CM Punk who, oh, by accident, supposedly tore a tricep early in his match. Is there a reference to this? Has anyone seen anything in this match that makes them say, ‘I can see, yeah, there really is.’ Now there maybe. I haven’t seen the game. I’m not saying it’s bullsh*t. What I’m saying is bullsh*t, when I saw him in that press conference he had no damn problem feeding Twinkies to his face. He didn’t sell anything. He wasn’t in pain. He stuffed his face like he hadn’t eaten in a damn month. I mean, he looks like a drunk. It looks like someone picked him up on a street corner somewhere in Chicago and sobered up 20 minutes before the press room. He looks like shit, he always has. But have you seen him sell his triceps while eating? He just fucked two fisting Twinkies while he was up there. You couldn’t see it properly? So I think it’s bullsh*t. I think he got hurt, I think he tore his triceps in that backstage fight, whatever it was. This is going to be a mess. So if they keep him around, it’s because they’re trying to deal with it. That’s my guess.”
Now you have AEW with two executive vice presidents, because that’s the Young Bucks, EVPs, they’re officers of the company who are involved in a physical confrontation with an angry hunk of shit that has now had a truck torn triceps. I suggest he may have gotten the torn triceps stuffing his face with fucking Twinkies in the scrum. If he got hurt, he got hurt feeding his face because he worked hard at it.
“Now you have a potential legal problem on your hands and a big one by the way because if Punk can claim he was hurt in that ring and then there was a physical altercation and now he has to do surgery, and he maybe can.” not wrestling anymore, and oh by the way, he’s making millions of dollars a year, and when he can’t wrestle anymore, some lawyer on the other side is going to be like, ‘Yeah, but he had at least 10 solid years left in his career, because look Look at Chris Jericho who is over 50 years old. Look at this guy who is over 50 years old. Look at this guy that’s over. He’s had a good 7, 8, 9, 10 years to go and he’s made a couple million, I know what the numbers are, I refuse to say. It’s many millions. So you know, that’s about a $50 million lawsuit. It’s gonna be a mess. So if you keep him close because they’re trying to control that. That’s my guess.
