In a new interview with the White Line Fever podcast, ex-JUDAS PRIEST Singer Tim “Ripper” Owens addressed his recent headline-grabbing comment that he never received a call from his former bandmates that they were finally joining the band Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame. When asked if he ever thinks about what will make headlines in the music media while promoting a particular project, Tim said: “Well, I always think, ‘Ugh, what’s going to happen chatterbox Morning?’ Because you can do eight million words [in an interview] and then a word came out and they took it [and base an article around it].”
Tim added: “I knew it [my comments about the Rock Hall] would [turned into a headline]and I don’t mind talking about it, because look, they should’ve been in the hall of fame a long time ago. And then they asked if I’d go in, listen, I’m not going in, and that’s cool… Like I said, I feel like I’m going in anyway because I’ve been in the band for about 10 years [I did] two studio recordings and two live recordings and one DVD and one grammy Nomination. It’s good to see rob [Halford] and Glenn [Tipton] and ken [Downing] and Scott [Travis] come in there.”
Regarding the fact that he will not be included in the rock hall With PRIEST when some former members of other acts who only appeared on one album had made the cut in the past, owens said: “It’s strange. It’s not that nobody is surprised like I said before. And listen, I’m friends with the guys and I never badmouth my time in the band. It’s a business so your feelings may get hurt for a second but I still love the boys. But it’s shocking that my era [with PRIEST] just been swept under the rug.
“Like I said in the Rolling Stone article, would have been nice to call just to say, ‘Look, that’s not you [getting inducted into the Rock Hall].’ As I said in the article, instead of getting emails threatening me about something a promoter did in Australia,” he added, referring to his upcoming announcement “metal gods” Tour of Australia whose name the PRIEST The management apparently had problems with it. “But just a nice message saying, ‘Hey, they’re going in. We would like to thank you…’
“The funny thing is, the fans are like, ‘Man, get over it.’ I don’t bring up this stuff. We don’t start our interview and I’m like, ‘You know what? They didn’t let me in there.’
“It is what it is; I get it,” added Tim. “Again, it’s a business. I have a lot to do with myself. I earn my living with music. And it is what it is.”
