Now in its third iteration, the Timekettle M3 aims to hit the three features that make TWS Earbuds such a revolutionary product – wireless audio for music/calls, active noise cancellation for the best listening experience, and probably the M3’s most impressive treat – Real-time audio translation, even while you’re offline.
Timekettle originally emerged in 2017 with its award-winning WT2 earbuds, which touted their real-time translations. A few hardware, software and overall design iterations later, the M2 was unveiled in 2021. The M2 was truly unique to look at, with an earphone case that split in half, with an earphone in each half that could be pulled out, worn and used. The idea was to somehow use the design to push the idea that these earbuds aren’t your average left-ear right-ear audio devices. They are designed to be split by breaking them in half (similar to a KitKat). Pass one to another and the two of you can converse seamlessly in two different languages and the headphones will do the rest, translating both languages simultaneously and in real-time, with no internet connection required. Of course, the M2 can also be worn like you wear regular TWS earphones, perfect for listening to music, taking calls or even real-time translation from an external audio source playing in your ear.

The M2, as impressive as it sounds, is old news now that Timekettle announced the M3 earbuds with some significant upgrades. The M3 features the same split case design as its predecessor and supports real-time translation of 40 languages and 93 accents (only the most important languages work in offline mode), but with a more ergonomic fit, better active noise cancellation and professional EQ -Tuning skills. The word real-time isn’t just there for fun either – Timekettle says the M3’s translations are accurate 95% of the time, with an impressive 0.5 second lag. This is thanks to the fact that the earbuds run on 6 of the world’s leading translation engines (DeepL, Google, Microsoft, iFlytek, AmiVoice, Hoya) and even Timekettle’s own engine to deliver accurate results quickly. It also makes the overall M3 experience much more seamless, as opposed to the clunky handheld translators out there right now. All translation is done on the device and plays right into your ear, allowing people to communicate more naturally.
Although the M3 was also built for phone calls and music, it is best known for its translation capabilities. The earphones have 3 translation modes (Touch, Listen and Speaker).
In touch mode, you can simply tap the force sensor to activate voice recording to translate all spoken sentences simultaneously and have a natural conversation with friends or colleagues of different nationalities.
In listening mode (formerly called lesson mode), your smartphone acts as a microphone, recording audio that is then translated while you listen to lectures, podcasts, or movies through the headphones.
In speaker mode, your phone’s speaker and earbuds work in tandem as translation devices, allowing you to have conversations with strangers without necessarily handing them an earbud. In the latter mode, the Timekettle M3 earbuds recognize and translate your spoken phrases, then play them back through your phone’s speaker. Extremely efficient for short questions and answers.
All three modes together make the M3 perfect for international travellers, immigrants, expats, students venturing abroad and even people dealing with clients and colleagues abroad.
The earbuds are also equipped with high-precision ANC (Active Noise Cancellation) and dual-mic noise reduction for your own voice to ensure crystal-clear audio on calls even in a noisy environment. A Qualcomm Bluetooth 5.2 chip inside ensures a perfect and seamless connection every time, and Timekettle’s companion smartphone app not only helps with translation, it has its own EQ settings so you can take your M3’s listening experience as far as possible possible to calibrate. The M3 are even IPx4 waterproof and last around 7.5 hours on a full charge and up to an additional 25 hours when used with the charging case.
The M3 is priced just like your regular pair of TWS earbuds but also includes the offline bundle with internet-free translation for 8 languages (English to Japanese, French, Spanish, Korean, Chinese, Russian and German) and 40 languages once online -connection exists. The Timekettle app is available for both Android and iOS phones and together with the M3 it offers a perfect arrangement for international travel, exchange programs or just working with foreign clients. Tres magnifique, isn’t it?
