If there’s anyone backing Blue Jays catcher Alejandro Kirk, it’s teammate Alek Manoah.

On Wednesday, Manoah defended Kirk after he was criticized by Montreal-based radio personality Matthew Ross, who called Kirk’s base running “embarrassing” for baseball.

The uproar began after the Blue Jays shared a tweet with video of Kirk officiating bases during Tuesday’s game against the Tampa Bay Rays.

Apparently, Ross wasn’t a fan of the video.

“It’s cute and all, but also embarrassing for the sport,” Ross said in a now-deleted tweet. “Giving guys like this a prominent place feeds negative stereotypes.”

While many Jays fans tweeted the radio host for a body-shaming statement, Manoah stepped up to the plate to speak up for his teammate.

“Go ahead and tell this 8 year old who is 10 pounds overweight to stop now,” Manoah tweeted. “Just get off the keyboard and let KIRK inspire these kids to keep chasing their dreams and striving for greatness.”

In another deleted tweet, Ross Manoah replied, “When a pro baseball player takes your words and twists them to fit his simple, defamatory narrative of you.

“Fat shame? That’s crazy. I questioned the optics of a PRO player and how that fits into the diminishing view that casual fans have of MLB. PERIOD.”

Manoah didn’t like Ross’ answer.

So now you’re saying attendance has gone down because there are too many big boys playing the sport? Then let me ask why he got millions of votes to start the all star game? And what’s tight is your nose, you should probably fix that. Her ratings have gone down because of that,” Manoah tweeted.

Apparently the negative feedback got through to Ross. At first he tried to protect himself from the backlash by suspending his Twitter account, but later deleted it altogether.

Ross hosts Weekend Game Plan on TSN Radio 690 in Montreal.

According to his now-deleted Twitter bio, Ross is also the founder of the non-profit organization ExposNation.
