It’s been a year since WWE NXT 2.0 launched, bringing the brand new evolutionary color and introducing fresh stars. This September 13 edition of the show would celebrate that legacy while empowering fans.
Carmelo Hayes was set to defend the NXT North American Championship against a mystery opponent chosen by the fans. The three options were Wes Lee, Von Wagner and Joe Gacy.
The Creed Brothers wanted to retake the NXT Tag Team Championships from Pretty Deadly. The fans voted that they would compete in a steel cage.
Cameron Grimes had a mystery partner to take on Tony D’Angelo and Channing “Stacks” Lorenzo. Nikkita Lyons and Zoey Stark would join Kiana James and Arianna Grace.
The show would also feature fights between Lash Legend and Fallon Henley, as well as Javier Bernal and Hank Walker, a security guard making his debut. It was also unlikely that Bron Breakker or Mandy Rose would miss this show as champions.
As the NXT 2.0 one year anniversary show, this night had all the makings of a special event.

The Creed Brothers stopped Pretty Deadly from escaping early and often. However, after interference from Damon Kemp, who handcuffed Julius Creed, Brutus Creed was left to fight alone. He fell to a second Spilled Milk by the NXT Tag Team Champions.
This was the least technical of the games these teams had as they played heavily on the steel cage condition. This made this a unique addition to the rivalry that felt fresh even as the teams fell into some familiar WWE tropes.
Pretty Deadly always had to win here, but the story was told well enough to make up for the predictability. Kemp’s commitment left Brutus fighting alone and he looked great despite the pinfall.

Pretty deadly def. Creed Brothers by Pinfall to retain the NXT Tag Team Championships.

Lash Legend confidently went in but fell unconscious in little more than two minutes when Fallon Henley caught her with a kick in the face.
After everything WWE has done with both Legend and Henley, this has been a shockingly one-sided affair. Henley crushed the former WNBA athlete with ease and suddenly pushed her way up.
After a brief backstage tease, it looks like Henley may be about to challenge Rose. However, there is still more work to be done to make her a serious challenger to the champion.

Henley defeated. Legend by pinfall.

Notable Moments
- Josh Briggs and Brooks Jensen watched this ringside match with Mason “The Night Howler” Ramirez, a young man who benefited from WWE’s Connor’s Cure.
- After the match, Jensen got a little too friendly backstage when he tried to compliment Mandy Rose, who insulted him until Henley nearly got in a fight with the women’s champion.
- Toxic Attraction then went to the ring and Alba Fyre laid down Rose to make it clear she wanted the next NXT Women’s Championship shot.
- Cora Jade explained why she turned and credited her match with Natalya. Wendy Choo attempted to respond to Jade’s interview but got into an argument with Legend.

Quincy Elliott overpowered Sean Gallagher from the opening bell and easily won a Banzai Drop.
This was more about presentation than execution. Elliott’s sparkling performance and presentation could help him stand out in WWE over the long term, but he needs to back it up in the ring.
This was a pure squash that ended in a far too typical banzai drop finish. It should be interesting to see how The Super Diva differentiates itself as a performer over time. He has to embrace his wild character in the way he performs.

Elliot defeated. Gallagher by pinfall.

After Cameron Grimes was knocked out alone, Joe Gacy went into the corner of The Richest Man in NXT. Gacy got the blind tag and pinned Channing “Stacks” Lorenzo after a hand spring clothesline.
With Grimes still rejecting The Schism after the win, the group knocked him out, ending with The Richest Man in NXT receiving a handspring clothesline.
This was an interesting segment at the wrong moment of the feud. Gacy, playing face in that match, was more interesting than he was as heel, but it was all a facade to set up a predictable beatdown.
If this match had been scheduled weeks ago, it would have been more impactful and would have shown what Gacy could really do to help Grimes. At this point, the feud is already established and must progress to a one-on-one match between the men.

Gacy and Grimes defeated. D’Angelo and Stacks by Pinfall.

- Grimes previously stated in an interview that he wanted to fight alone.
- Gacy played up a hot tag from the moment he got on the apron, then stole a blind tag and ran down the D’Angelo Family with Impact Offense.

While Kiana James and Arianna Grace lasted for a while, they just couldn’t match the athleticism of Nikkita Lyons and Zoey Stark. Stark hit her GTS variation followed by Lyons who connected with a roundhouse and a split leg drop for the pinfall on Grace.
This went on for way too long with little to enjoy. It didn’t help that James and Grace were so focused. Her offense was boring and unforgettable. Once Stark was in control, the action started to move, but those moments were brief.
Lyons hardly did anything in this match. If this tag team wants to move up the ranks, possibly even send both to the main roster, Lyons and Stark will need to find tag team synergy.

Lyons and Stark defeated. James and Grace from Pinfall.

Notable Moments
- James got angry early on and threatened to use her business bag as a weapon. This gimmick is painfully stuck in an older time.
- JD McDonagh told Bron Breakker he wasn’t done with him while giving himself an old-school shave. Tyler Bate challenged McDonagh to earn another title match.
- Breakker spoke to Vic Joseph about his past year of success on NXT 2.0.

With a crowd reaction behind him, Hank Walker fought hard to silence Javier Bernal. He impressively put his rival down with a running crossbody.
There wasn’t much about that match, but the excitement behind Walker’s attempt to challenge Big Body Javi made for a fun spot on the card. Walker sold his own inexperience in the ring to appear as a tall, personable Everyman.
It’s rare that WWE builds a star as a true underdog with no flair. He came out with entrance music to sell his lack of star power. After a month of construction, it worked well despite being little more than a squash match.

Walker def. Bernal by pinfall.

Notable Moments
- Walker tried to break up a fight between The Dyad and Edris Enofé and Malik Blade, but his colleague told him to focus on his upcoming match.
- Big body Javi punched Walker which upset the guard. Walker tossed Bernal around the ring with ease.
- NXT announced the arrival of Oro Mensah, formerly Oliver Carter, next week.
- Grayson Waller was upset to find out he hadn’t voted for the last four fan votes for NXT’s Biggest Star. Unsurprisingly, Bron Breakker ended up winning the vote.

Carmelo Hayes walked out with Trick Williams, making sure he didn’t have to wrestle after injuring Wes Lee backstage. Solo Sikoa arrived to take his shot. Sikoa placed The A Champion with a Uranage and Uso Splash to win.
That was a bit hasty. Though Melo and Sikoa have long been rivals, the new member of The Bloodline didn’t seem to stop there. Even when Melo was in control, he was never ready to win.
It could have been a better match but it was a fantastic moment. Sikoa has been after the NXT North American Championship for months. It looked like he would never get his run after going to SmackDown. Instead, he plunged everything into chaos.
It’s likely the member of The Bloodline will now serve as champion on both SmackDown and NXT, but it’s hard to say for sure. What matters is that he got his reward after a great run in NXT 2.0 for the one year anniversary.

Sikoa def. Melo by Pinfall will be the new NXT North American Championship.

Notable Moments
- Wes Lee was announced as the winner of the fan vote to challenge Hayes. Melo and Trick attacked him in the dressing room shortly after.
- Hayes followed up Sikoa’s strained left knee with a one-legged Boston crab. This left The Bloodline member limping for the rest of the game.
- Trick got on the apron to save Melo, but Sikoa still placed The A Champion with a Samoan drop for a nearfall.
- The show ended with Shawn Michaels rolling out the future of NXT.
