New Delhi:
Amitabh Bachchan is synonymous with the Hindi film industry. The Shahenshah of Bollywood needs no introduction. Just the mention of his name excites and delights his millions of fans around the world. Many would agree that Jahaan Amitabh Bachchan “khade ho jaate hain, line wahi se shuru hoti hain?“Yes, we tweaked his iconic dialogue from the 1981 film Kaalia. After all, it’s Amitabh Bachchan we’re talking about. The veteran actor turns 80. From the characters to the dialogue, everything about him is in a class of his own. Be it the outstanding dialogue from his film from 1998 Shahenshah – Rishte my toh hum tumhare baap lagte hain, naam haiShahenshah — or the headline from the 1975 film deewar – Aaj mere paas banglaa hai, gaadi hai, bank balance hai, tumhare paas kya hai? – Big B has always impressed us with his extraordinary dialogue and intonation.
On Amitabh Bachchan’s 80th birthday, let’s go through his famous dialogues.
1 – Rishte my toh hum tumhare baap lagte hain, naam hai Shahenshah – Shahenshah
This film made Amitabh Bachchan the shahenshah of Indian cinema. A corrupt police inspector by day and a vigilante by night, Big B carried the whole film with ease.
T 2611 – 30 YEARS ‘SHAHENSHAH’ .. amazing times .. came at a time when there was little hope of his release .. due to attacks on my credibility .. but the people of the nation knew better .. had a bumper opening and much success! Many Thanks pic.twitter.com/wX4D1u5Rrk

2 – Naam, Vijay, Poora Naam, Vijay Dinanath Chauhan, Baap Ka Naam, Dinanath Chauhan, Maa Ka Naam, Suhasini Chauhan, Gaon, Mandwa, Umar, 36 Hall, 9 Mahina, 8 Din Aur Ye 16vaa Ghantaa Chalu Hai – Agneepath
All hail the OG Vijay Dinanath Chauhan. Watching the moment Amitabh Bachchan’s character introduces himself at a police station gives us all goosebumps. The actor gave an outstanding performance in the Mukul Anand-directed film, which was remade in 2012 with the same title.
3 – Aaj mere paas bangla hai, gaadi hai, bank balance hai, tumhare paas kya hai? – Deewar
Little did the makers know at the time of manufacture deewar that this dialogue by Vijay Verma (Big B) is going to be such a big hit. 90’s kids saw this line morph into a golden meme.
4 – I can speak English, I can walk English, I can laugh English, I can walk English because English is such a fun language – Namak Halaal
Big B as Arjun Singh in this Prakash Mehra direction left us divided. Especially this dialogue, which has served as fodder for memes ever since.
5 – Don Ko Pakadna Mushkil Hi Nahin, Namumkin Hai – Don
What made Amitabh Bachchan’s 1978 film a huge hit? Its acting, the all-star cast, the story and not to mention the iconic dialogues. This one-liner was delivered by the megastar with such excellence that it turned his character into one of Bollywood’s wildest and most confident criminals. The film was remade in 2011, starring Shah Rukh Khan and Priyanka Chopra.
6 – Anand Mara Nahi, Anand Marte Nahi – Anand
This film by Amitabh Bachchan and Rajesh Khanna taught us many life lessons. The plot revolves around Anand Sehgal, played the Rajesh Khanna, who follows the mantra that “zindagi badi honi chahiye…lambi nahi.“He suffers from a terminal illness, but that never stops him from enjoying life to the fullest. After his death, his doctor Bhaskar Banerjee (Amitabh Bachchan) is devastated, but he remembers Anand’s glorious life and says: “Anand mara nahi, Anand marte nahi.”

7 – Aisa To Aadmi Life My Doich Time Bhaagta Hai. Olympic Ka Race Ho, Yaa Police Ka Case Ho. Tum Kisliye Bhaagta Hai Bhai? -Amar Akbar Anthony
We can never be as cool as Anthony Gonsalves. Remember when he stopped Robert (Jeevan) from running away with a box full of gold bars and provided that dialogue? Difficult to match Anthony’s style, isn’t it? The film also starred Rishi Kapoor and Vinod Khanna.
8. Moochein Ho to Nathulal Ji Jaisi Ho Varna Na Ho – Sharaabi
As Amitabh Bachchan aka Vicky Kapoor said, a mustache should be sturdy and thick, or in simple terms: “Nathulal ji jaisi ho varna na ho.” The scene from Prakash Mehras Sharaabiwhere Vicky Kapoor admires Nathulal’s “Moochein” in his office still leaves his fans trembling.
9. Tumhara Naam Kya Hai Basanti? Scholay
Amitabh Bachchan as Jai and Dharmendra as Veeru in Scholay still give us friendship goals. This dialogue is as iconic as the Ramesh Sippy movie. The scene begins with Basanti (Hema Malini) and Veeru (Dharmendra) sitting on their tonga and talking. Then she asks: “Tumne yeh nahi pucha ki humara naam kya hai?” Here comes Jai, resting behind Veeru, with his answer –“Tumhara Naam Kya Hai Basanti?”
10 – Hum jahan khade ho jaate hain, lineage wahi se shuru hoti hain – Kaalia
We couldn’t find a better way to end the list. If Amitabh Bachchan’s Kaalia sent to prison, he became the master of his own destiny. This dialogue shows his transformation from a naive guy to an angry young man seeking justice.
Happy Birthday Big B
