Samsung’s next Galaxy Unpacked event is scheduled for Wednesday 10 August. We expect to see several new releases from the company foldable flagship phones and smartwatches to be unveiled – but there’s always a chance for surprise launches of new devices.
The event invitation shown above, which shows a Z Flip foldable phone, suggests that we will see new versions of Samsung’s foldable devices. That suits you previous leak by tipster Evan Blass, who predicts new versions of Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 and the clam Samsung Galaxy ZFlip 3, which came out in August 2021.
Don’t expect too many big advances with Samsung’s next foldable devices. Rumors point to tablet size Samsung Galaxy Fold 4 may have a new hinge and slimmer build, but the leaker jury isn’t sure if it’ll include an S Pen slot like that Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra. Other rumors predict that the foldable device will feature the faster Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus chipset, as well as a larger outer display that will need its own under-display camera to complement that on the inner screen.
The makeup looking compact Samsung Galaxy ZFlip 4 could get a larger cover display according to other rumours, which could make it much more useful for reading notifications and previewing selfie photos.
Even though the new foldables only have incremental spec upgrades, the biggest improvement might be the price. That Galaxy Fold 3 was cheaper than its predecessor at $1,800 (£1,599, AU$2,499), which is still around double the price of most premium smartphones. That Galaxy Z Flip 3 Amazingly, it cost $1,000 (£949, AU$1,499), or around the price of an iPhone 13 Pro, making it the cheapest foldable device yet and a viable alternative to standard flat smartphones.
But the upcoming Z Fold 4 and Z Flip 4 could get even cheaper, predicts analyst Ross Young, CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultants tweeted Samsung has ramped up production to make twice as many of the new foldable devices as last year’s models, hinting at a possible price cut.

In any case, we assume that the new foldables will sell well, since the Z Fold 3 and the Z Flip 3 sold more units in their introductory month than were sold in all of 2020. With 88% of the more than 7 million foldable devices sold in 2021, Samsung is in a strong position to continue to dominate the niche foldable device market expected to grow to over 27 million copies sold by 2025.
Samsung could launch other products to accompany the foldable devices and the most likely one is this Samsung Galaxy Watch 5. Rumors predict that the next version of the premium smartwatch line could get a body temperature sensor and better battery life, as well as an updated design. Hopefully it will also fix a glaring bug in the Galaxy Watch 4 — no support for iPhones — as well as better Wear OS 3 integration, as we felt last year’s watch fell in between The ecosystems of Google and Samsung.
There are other things Samsung could boast of such as: B. Successor of Galaxy Buds 2 Earbuds, tablets or laptops, but we haven’t heard many rumors suggesting any of these are likely to arrive. Still, we might be slightly surprised if all eyes are on the anticipated leaflets.
To encourage customers to reserve their phones early from July 19th to August 10th, Samsung offers an extensive list of discounts based on different packages, from a maximum of $200 off for those reserving a Galaxy phone, watch and buds, to a minimum of $30 off for basic Galaxy bud reservations. While this could be a hint as to what’s coming with Unpacked, the savings could apply to older Galaxy Watch or Galaxy Buds models.
The event is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. ET / 6 p.m. PT. CNET will monitor and report on the revelations.
