former MACHINE HEAD and current VIOLENCE guitarist Phil Demmel filled in for Willy Adler last night (Sunday 9 October) LAMB OF GOD Concert at the UBC – Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Center in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The fan-filmed video of the show can be seen below.
earlier today, Demmel shared a photo of the Vancouver gig and added the following message: “A 24-hour Canadian protocol Vacation ended a pretty crazy weekend. Thanks again to the band and crew for having me with them. Good to see @joebad and @jesse_d_leach doing their thing and having the woman there meant everything. What’s next?!?!?!?”
willie played along LAMB OF GOD on Friday, October 7 at aftershocks Festival in Sacramento, California and is expected to rejoin the band for tonight’s show (Monday, October 10) in Kent, Washington.
Demmel previously filled in for Eagle to almost a dozen Europeans LAMB OF GOD shows in August. Before, Demmel stood up for Eagle while PROTOCOL‘s appearance in January at the ShipRocked cruise and in May for the Canadian part of LAMB OF GOD‘s “The Metal Tour of the Year” With MEGADETH.
When Eagle‘s absence of LAMB OF GODThe summer 2022 European tour was first announced, he released a statement saying he couldn’t make the trip because he “has some things I need to be home for”. He also thanked his bandmates for “supporting my decision.”
Even though LAMB OF GOD has not made an official statement Eagle‘s absence from the shows, VIOLENCE Singer Sean Killian revealed this in an interview in April willie is “not done making the vaxx” which refers to the COVID-19 vaccine and is replaced by Demmel for dates in those countries that still require proof of vaccination from US travelers.
In April, Demmel also filled in for Campbell when the bass player had to miss a few shows “The Metal Tour of the Year” to “take care of a family matter at home”.
Last month, LAMB OF GOD bassist John Campbell said Australia “Scars and Guitars” podcast that Eagle is “absolutely” still a member of LAMB OF GOD. “Yes. willie always been in the group,” he said. “We’ve all had situations where we didn’t have to be on tour when the band had things going on because things were happening that we had to take care of. willie is one thousand percent in the band. We are lucky to have Phil Demmel available to intervene if necessary.
“This is the first time I’ve been asked that, so I’m a bit taken aback.” Campbell authorized. “But yes, willie is Absolutely in the band. We had a sound check earlier. We stood right on the stage together and played tunes.”
Last month Bloodstock Open Air Festival, Demmel was asked by Total Rock if willieThe reason is the COVID-19 vaccination status Phil stood up for them LAMB OF GOD Guitarist on some of the last shows. He replied: “I think so willieis at a point right now, and it’s not really my point to say it, but I have a feeling that he… I don’t even think I should talk about it. I don’t think it’s up to me to say anything about it Will. But he makes his decisions and I am the contingent. Here I am.”
Demmel went on to commend his engagement with LAMB OF GODand said: “They are one of the biggest metal bands in the world. And it feels good to say, ‘Hey, we want you on board willie‘s shoes,’ the willie writes these riffs and he’s a great guitar player. And being like, “Hey, we want you to be that guy” or whatever… I get along with the guys. In a way, it feels good to be wanted… It’s pretty cool. They’re all freakin’ great guys and a great band and a total pro camp. I love the way they handle things. So it’s good to be a part of it.”
Demmel‘s appearance with LAMB OF GOD marked his third high-profile fill-in gig in four years. Demmel stood up for SLAYERS guitarist Gary Holt for four European shows in fall 2018 thereafter gary returned home to be with his dying father. Demmel also subsidized David Link at OVERKILL‘s concert on November 13, 2021 at the Wellmont Theater in Montclair, New Jersey and on the band’s spring 2022 US tour.
LAMB OF GOD Singer Randy Blythe discussed Demmel‘s involvement with the band during an interview with Bloodstock TV‘s Oran O’Beirne. To O’Beirne noticed how talented Demmel is able to intervene at any time, Blythe said, “To be fair, we let him work. The guitar parts aren’t easy. We’re playing a song tonight, “The Faded Line”, and that’s a song that hasn’t been in our set for a while because some people are like, ‘Oh, that’s hard.’ And it’s like, ‘No. We have to do this.’ And even he just said, ‘Oh. We have to learn that. That’s a fucked up riff.’ But we saw it Phil fill in for SLAYERS with a notice of about two days in Europe at the end of SLAYERS tour because Gary Holt‘s father died. RIP and Phil came over and killed it. We have known him for many years. It was never really a question of whether he can do it. He’s a phenomenally talented guy.”
