Camila Cabello on how Harry Styles crush inspired her to try The X Factor: 'I thought that... we would fall in love'
Written by adrina

Camila Cabello has only been a trainer so far The voice a week, and there’s an unofficial season 22 drinking game: take a sip every time she mentions that she once entered “another singing competition.” Actually, on second thought, Not If you did, you’d likely have severe alcohol poisoning before Monday’s final Blind Auditions episode even ended. watch The voice responsible folks!

Camila appears to be seriously hinting that she was a contestant on The X Factor USA more often than their predecessors Voice Trainers Kelly Clarkson and Jennifer Hudson, always referred to their american idol past combined. But when she came up The x factor When she tried to win over 18-year-old pop/rock power singer Sasha Hurtado this Monday, it totally worked — because she was calling someone else’s name X factor-Superstar launched.

After Sasha boldly belted out Bishop Briggs’ “River” and inspired both Camila and rival trainer John Legend to flip their red chairs, John asked Sasha about her current favorite artists. When Sasha checked Harry Styles’ name, John brought up the fun fact that he was the very first person Harry ever followed on Twitter, which was pretty impressive. “Oh, that’s a flex!” exclaimed Sasha. but then Camila brought up an even funnier fact, which she also confessed to while appearing on Carpool Karaoke earlier this year: “I actually auditioned for my original singing competition show because I thought I was going to meet Harry Styles and we were going to fall in love‘ she told her Voice Castmates with a chuckle.

Two years before Camila was there The x factor and finally third as a member of the ready-made girl group Fifth Harmony, Harry of course got his famous start with the British X factor as a member of the third-ranked prefab boy band One Direction. And the rest was music and television history. While Camila and Harry never became a couple, they did go on to become two of the biggest pop solo stars to ever come off the show X factor Franchise. And so, apparently, this gave Camila an advantage over John — despite John’s aforementioned Twitter bragging rights and his aggressive attempt to recruit Sasha — because Sasha chose to join Team Camila.

“I don’t stand a chance!” John lamented while trainer Blake Shelton announced, “It’s official! John can’t beat Camila!”

Camila continued her winning streak, prompting John to grumble, “Okay, I’m retiring now; I quit,” as she scored another promising singer, four-seat nominee Andrew Igbokidi. She also continued to mention her singing show past on pretty much every occasion. But (Spoiler alert!) In the end, John finally defeated her. These were the other successful auditions of the night:

Andrew Igbokidi, 22: “When the party is over”

Andrew, a first generation American of Nigerian descent, is an achiever from a family of medical professionals and has been accepted into four medical schools. Well it’s nice to have a plan B I guess! Now “at a crossroads” in his life, he has decided to give singing another chance, and the coaches have been “fascinated” (John’s words) by his distinctive vibrato and unique tone. “I’ve never seen anyone on this show with such a mix of styles,” marveled Gwen Stefani. “I really, really believe in you. …I just want you so bad,” Camila gushed.

Who turned? All four coaches.

Result: Team Camila, again! The girl is successful this season. “You can’t beat her,” Blake sighed in frustration.

Cara Brindisi, 34: “Everything too good”

With a delicate, storytelling voice—more of a whisper than a scream at first—and a keen sense of dynamic, Cara gradually drew the trainers in. Gwen loved Cara’s ’70s singer-songwriter vibe, while Blake loved her “countryside.” insisting: “I hear a twang coming out.” Camila, a giant swiftie who oddly didn’t turn for Cara despite the song choices, even odder advocated for Cara to choose Blake – causing an outraged Gwen to shy away from her new supposed ” Beast” to feel betrayed.

Who turned? Blake and Gwen.

Result: Team Gwen! Cara admitted, “I really wasn’t expecting this,” but she decided to go with her gut instead of Camila.

Valarie Harding, 41: “Something he can feel”

Valarie, a mother of four from Tulsa who works part-time in a company band with her husband, gave a smooth, polished and capable performance, but she was totally dated and very corporate. Maybe it was just her choice of song. However, it was a choice John approved of – in fact, he had two of his contestants sing it in the Battles last year.

Who turned? John and Gwen.

Result: team legend. Gwen tried to play the “Okie” card through her husband Blake’s Oklahoma connection, and honestly, Gwen might have been a more adventurous choice for Valarie. But John was obviously a better match for the R&B singer.

Julia Aslanli, 23: “Let’s stay together”

Julia is sort of a horse whisperer because she rides horses and has a very soft, whispery singing style. I’m not sure this passionate Al Green classic was the best choice for her, even though she sentimentally dedicated it to her fiancé. (“There wasn’t anything that particularly excited me about the song choices,” Camila remarked, not turning around.) But Gwen loved Julia’s tone, proclaiming her “one of my favorite singers” of season 22, and she wasn’t wrong , when she said Julia was “channeling something special”. Could Julia be this season’s – no pun intended – dark horse?

Who turned? Only Gwen – but she turned around almost immediately.

Result: Team Gwen, obviously.

The Dryes: “Islands in the Stream”

This husband-and-wife duo exuded lovey-dovey vibes during their Blake/Gwen duet; In fact, Gwen said it would be her “dream” if she and Blake ever tackled the Kenny Rogers/Dolly Parton classic themselves. I didn’t find Derek Drye’s solo voice all that remarkable, but there was a certain magic when his better half, Katelyn, came along. Their chemistry was undeniable.

Who turned? Blake as soon as he heard Katelyn and realized that this was a harmonious couple; Gwen did the same when she heard Katelyn’s melodious, bird-like solo voice.

Result: Team Blake. “Shocker!” said Gwen sarcastically.

Ava Lynn Thuresson, 18: “…Baby One More Time”

The radical remake of Britney Spears songs isn’t exactly a new gimmick on talent shows, so Ava Lynn didn’t have to say it was a creatively brilliant move on her part. Her bluesy version gave me dated Alannah Myles vibes, and the arrangement was awkward and all over the place. However, the coaches realized there was a strong voice somewhere – so this young, raw talent could do well with better songs and arrangements and some much-needed direction.

Who turned? Camila – who mentioned her X factor Past again – and John.

Result: Team Kamila.

Madison Hughes, 25: “Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door”

This Americana artist’s quirky, high-pitched voice actually reminded me a little of Gwen’s. It was definitely distinctive, and I’m not at all surprised that Gwen turned around. Gwen called Madison a “melting pot” who could try many different genres of music, but her husband had a different idea. “Country is what comes out of your mouth,” Blake said matter-of-factly to Madison.

Who turned? Blake, Gwen… and Camila, who (Yes indeed) mentioned that she “used to be on a singing show.”

Result: Team Blake.

Morgan Taylor, 20: “Because I Love You”

A wallflower who confessed that her fear “controls every aspect of her life,” Morgan channeled her “alter ego” onto the Voice stage and transformed into a powerful, if imperfect, performer. Camila remarked that pulling off that breathless half-sung/half-spoken Lizzo banger was “no small feat”, noting Morgan’s nerves, and John agreed, saying, “That rap vocal part, I have a feeling he’s tripping up Everyone high.” But John appreciated that Morgan was a “risk taker” and praised her “bold, big, powerful” vocals.

Who turned? All four trainers, and everyone except Camila, immediately pushed their buttons.

Result: team legend. Apparently, Camila’s approach to tough love – noting that Morgan only worked at “95%” potential but was able to reach “99.9%” with her help – wasn’t what a shy and sensitive soul like Morgan is today evening needed.
