PITTSBURGH (AP) — Jack Suwinski hit a two-run double to hit a four-run seventh inning, propelling Pittsburgh past Cincinnati.
Suwinski turned a slider off Derek Law (2-1) and sent him into right field. Fellow rookie Oneil Cruz, who opened the inning with his third of four straight singles, and Miguel Andújar scored to give Pittsburgh a 4-2 lead. Law beat Ke’Bryan Hayes with a pitch and walked with Cal Mitchell before being substituted. Kevin Newman dropped an RBI single straight from Joel Kuhnel. Hayes hit on a sacrificial fly.
The bottom-seeded Pirates (57-97), who have won their last five games against the Reds, need to win at least six of their last eight games to avoid a tenth loss-100 run. Cincinnati dropped four out of five.
Yohan Ramirez (1-1) threw the seventh and eighth for Pittsburgh, allowing two hits.
Cincinnati’s TJ Friedl had a solo homer, his eighth of the season, before a rain delay halted play for 38 minutes after topping the fourth.
