News update from Monday
Bryan and I will be covering Raw and the latest wrestling news tonight. We had shows about SummerSlam and UFC 277 on Saturday and Ric Flair’s final match last night. Most of what we had to say about the flair show is in last night’s show.
Regarding the rumors about Sasha Banks and Naomi returning, I don’t know if it’s signed yet, but it’s moving in that direction and internally they expect it to happen.
I have a Sports Illustrated feature about changes in WWE.
Raw is in Houston tonight. A large crowd of well over 10,000 is expected at the Toyota Center. Riddle vs. Seth Rollins is promoted locally. They’re doing a worked out injury prospect with Riddle, so who knows when he’ll be back in TV wrestling, but it should be soon. There are no televised games announced at this time. Given that it’s the Monday after SummerSlam and creative Paul Levesque’s curiosity, it should be another big number for TV ratings as well.
We’d love to hear your thoughts on SummerSlam, UFC 277, the Flair retirement show and both NJPW shows in Nagoya with a thumbs up, down or middle, the best and worst match for each show at [email protected]. We’re also looking for coverage of Raw in Houston tonight live with any main event or dark matches or anything notable about the live or non-television audience at [email protected]
G-1 tomorrow morning at 5:30 from Hamamatsu has Tomohiro Ishii vs. Great O’Khan, David Finlay vs. Will Ospreay with the US physical title belt at stake, Tom Lawlor vs. Toru Yano, Tama Tonga vs. Sanada, and Hirooki Goto vs. Kenta.
The WOW show returns on September 17th. returns to television in syndication and will be broadcast in all major markets.
Today marks the third anniversary of the death of legendary pro wrestler Harley Race. Yesterday was the seventh anniversary of Roddy Piper’s death. Both were important historical figures in the sport, and Piper’s influence on WWE as the powerhouse it is today is generally underestimated.
