The new Mustang will be available for the 2024 model year.
“Investing in another generation of Mustang is a big statement at a time when many of our competitors are exiting the internal combustion engine business,” said Jim Farley, Ford CEO.
Mustang is truly Ford’s icon on the road and on the track
Ford is driving its ICE (internal combustion engine) growth plan, adding connected technology, quirky derivatives and hybrid options to our most profitable and popular cars – all in the Ford Blue Oval family – and investing an additional $50 billion in electric vehicles by 2026. ”
The new Mustang was unveiled Wednesday night at the North American International Auto Show in an outdoor ceremony on the edge of the Detroit River, with a fitting Windsor backdrop.

In addition to the five-liter engine, the 2024 Mustang will offer a 2.3-liter Eco Boost engine. This engine is manufactured at Ford’s engine plant in Cleveland.
“Performance is everything,” said Ford development chief Ed Krenz. “It’s our legacy.
“The five-liter V8 is the most powerful Mustang GT of all time.”
The significantly revised engine is the fourth generation of the Coyote engine.
It adds dual air intakes to help airflow and increase performance. The engine produces 420 pound-feet of torque and produces over 480 horsepower.
The new Mustang features a wider, meaner looking and more muscular body.
“The seventh generation is a modern interpretation of Mustang’s legendary design heritage,” said Chris Walter, Mustang’s exterior design manager.

“The front end looks aggressive. The upper grille slope is a nod to 1960s design.
“Eco and GT have distinctive front ends. For the first time, there are two striking fronts.”
The interior of the car has been dramatically redesigned with the cockpit adopting the jet fighter look.
The dashboard has a large screen to display its digital clusters, which can be color customized and even offer a retro 1980s display.
The steering wheel has a flat bottom, and both the materials and the look of the interior have been improved.
“We exploit every pixel,” said Craig Sandvig, Interaction Design Manager at Ford Mustang.
“We can be creative in displaying necessary driving information, giving the driver control over the choice of colors, classic Mustang instruments, or even a ‘quiet’ screen that shows minimal detail.”

Ford also introduced a new high-performance Darkhorse Mustang model that includes the most powerful engine version at over 500 hp.
The engineers have also made improvements with a new steel oil pan, which is intended to reduce friction.
The engine will still be mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission, but will also be available as a six-speed manual.
The Darkhorse version will be Ford’s flagship for its racing programs.
The company will compete at most of the major North American circuits, but will also be returning to the site of perhaps the company’s greatest racing success – Le Mans.
“Mustang is truly Ford’s icon on the road and on the track,” said Ford CEO Bill Ford.
“Mustang has raced at all the major circuits around the world. There is no race or track that means more to our history than Le Mans. We competed against Ferrari there in the 1960s and won.
“We’ll be returning with the Mustang.”
