Engage Fire Emblem uses the same tactical combat system that the series is known for, but with some interesting changes. While the combat looks pretty standard, the biggest new feature seems to be the “Emblem Rings” system, which allows characters to fuse with previous Fire Emblem heroes. In some gameplay sequences we see how characters can equip rings of past heroes to improve their stats and even transform into new forms. What’s not clear at the moment is whether certain characters can only use certain rings. In the trailer we see the main character using Marth, a character named Alfred using Sigurd and a character named Celine merging with Celica. After that, it looks like the game will also have a weapon triangle and skill system.
The other gameplay detail we know about is this Engage Fire Emblem will have some kind of hub area, as in Fire Emblem: Three Houses. The hub seems to have all the amenities you could want such as an item shop, a blacksmith, and some sort of pasture. Interestingly, we also see that previous Fire Emblem characters like Marth inhabit the hub and can be spoken to.
Engage Fire Emblem will be released on January 20, 2023 for Nintendo Switch.
