Nickelodeon is short lived Rise of the Teenage Mutant Turtles may have met with criticism on its first debut, but it soon found an audience that was very I’ve been happy to sing the praises of the show for years. Now that the Turtles’ latest iteration has landed their own Movie on Netflixwhich also includes the complete first season, it was the perfect time to talk about what the future could have held (and possibly still?) in stock for this new version Leo, Raph, Mikey and Donnie.

On Saturday, rise Fan Colin Stein stopped Twitch stream of the film, which featured several members of the show Production team including executive producer Ant Ward, character designer Bryce Collins, storyboard artist Laura Gille and series director JJ Conway. Aside from the crew debating what needed to be cut from the film for length or neat ideas, there is a version of this film that April could have piloted a Mech version of Raph that Donnie did, and the prologue originally showed the main cast of the series as older, battle-hardened heroes in the Krang-controlled future of New York – there was some debate as to what the crew wanted to do with the show before they found out ends earlier than expected.

The second season of the show had noticeably a shorter episode count than the first, and there was still a lot left on the cutting room floor, including one episode that would have been a parody of the war of stars Holiday special of all things. One storyline that had to be cut completely was the Turtles other siblings whom Splinter failed to save in his escape from the hidden city of New York. Ono of that siblings would have come in Owned by Baron Draxumand the other would have been raised by Big Mama, the Hidden City’s spider crime boss.

Another casualty of the shortened season was Karai, reimagined in rise as ancestor to the turtles. The character was on the verge of being completely eliminated from the entire season on the basis of not being able to give her any real character with a small handful of episodes. Understandably, even after Ward convinced the crew to keep Karai around, letting her die to save the Turtles didn’t feel like it Great to most of the staff. So the writers chose to let her live on by moving her soul to April. Before her death, however, she could have spent more time with the Turtles for one person Base.

Would have rise made it into season three, the Krang would have become the main villains of that particular season, followed by the rat king in a hypothetical fourth season. After the film, the show’s tone gradually shifted from goofy slapstick (reportedly mandated by Nickeldeon) to a darker tone, a space that the rise film busy for most of its lifespan over the krang. Unlike previous incarnations, the Krang are in rise are not played for laughs, and the crew wanted to get as much into the body horror as possible. Presumably, the surviving Krang who was taken into custody would have served as this major villain.

The entire stream contains other interesting information for fans to brood over, such as: B. what the rise crew hoped to do with the hidden city and the ideas they had for the shows Version by Casey Jones. Maybe in the not-too-distant future we’ll see this iteration of the Turtles — sorry, that Crazy Dogs– get a second chance in life, as other animated superheroes have before. By all accounts, it sounds like this show has more than enough gas left in the tank.

Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Movie is available now on Netflix and the show can be viewed on Netflix or Paramount+.
