Earlier this year, the Galaxy S22 series introduced the professional smartphone camera with advanced nightography capabilities. Now this camera has gotten even better. With an updated version of the Expert RAW app and a brand new app called Camera Assistant,1 You can take professional looking shots.
Conquer the galaxy with Astrophoin ExpertRAW
The Expert RAW extends the already robust night photography capabilities of the S22 with a powerful astrophoto function. With this brand new feature, stargazers and outdoor enthusiasts can take clear and beautiful photos of constellations and activity in the dark sky.
Simply turn on the Sky Guide to locate the position of constellations, solar systems, asterisms and nebulae. Your camera uses advanced AI segmentation technology and multi-frame processing based on a celestial body’s movements to capture photos over a set period of time. As a result, you get stunning shots of stars that look like they were captured using top-of-the-line professional equipment.
If you love exploring your artistic side, you can use the multiple exposure feature to capture multiple images at once, then use the overlay modes to combine them into one standout shot. You can also let your creativity run wild and experiment by overlaying multiple images to create incredible abstract shots.
To access the Beta version of Astrophoto and Multiple Exposures, go to the Special Photo options in the Expert RAW settings menu.
The Camera Assistant app lets you take photos on your own terms
Every avid photographer has their own style of shooting, so it’s important to have a camera that lets you be creative. The new Camera Assistant app lets you choose which automated features you want to use for a completely customized shooting experience.
You can download the app from either the Galaxy Store or the Good Lock app. Once the app is installed, you can launch the feature by clicking the app icon, navigating to the Good Lock app, or accessing the Camera Assistant menu under Camera Settings in your native camera app.
The Camera Assistant app gives you the ability to turn certain features on or off, including automatic lens switching, Auto HDR, and Fast Shutter. You also have more options when choosing, for example, the number of pictures you want to take after the timer runs out.
With the camera assistant app, you can enjoy the following main features:2
- Automatic HDR: If you want to get atmospheric pictures without the HDR effect, you can now simply switch it off.
- soften images: You can enable this feature to smooth the sharp edges and textures of your photos.
- Automatic lens switching: Now you can turn off the auto lens switching function, which automatically switches camera lenses in dark environments or when you get close to the subject. For example, if you still want to use the telephoto lens instead of the wide-angle lens to photograph a closer subject, you can simply turn it off in the menu.
- Video recording in photo mode: You can now disable this feature, which allows you to record a video clip by long-pressing the button in photo mode to prevent accidentally recording a video.
- Number of images by timer: After the timer expired, you could automatically snap several photos in quick succession. Now you can also choose how many photos will be taken (1, 3, 5 or 7 photos).
- Fast closure: In this mode, you can capture up to seven images in one second. This is very useful when taking pictures of moving objects.
- Camera timeout: You can choose how long the camera app (preview screen) is on continuously for 1, 2, 5 or 10 minutes.
- Clean preview on HDMI displays: View camera previews without menus and buttons on HDMI-connected displays.
1 Updated Expert RAW and Camera Assistant apps are currently available for Galaxy S22 series with One UI 5 or later versions. Availability timing may vary by market, model and carrier.
2 Some functions are available for selected modes or lenses.
